This number they're performing replaced Clandango from the Chicago production, right? I like Clandango better.
It was beyond dreadful. What a waste of talent!

i actually enjoyed it more on tv than i did live haha.. not saying much, but still
Thanks for the reminder! I caught most of it.
While the song, and most of the score isn't as great as it could be, it's really not that bad. I enjoyed it, and everyone (sans Bebe) seemed to be having a great time.
Just said the same thing jeffmiele! Wondering if it's gotten better since I saw the second preview and considering giving it a second chance.
Granted, there're few-to-no songs they could have done to give off a positive impression (maybe "Full Disclosure"?), but seeing this on TV reminded me just how lifeless and uninspired this show is. I know it's selling amazingly, but I truly think this was the worst musical on Broadway this season (wracking my brain)... maybe worst production period?

I have been reading so many bad things about this show, but I really liked this song. If the rest of the show is on par with this, it cannot be all that bad.
But it actually IS that bad, sccatess. And MiracleElixer, I think Birdie was worse production but it's definitely up there.
Good call, taylor.
However, while "Birdie" was a pretty awful production, the show itself is so inherently enjoyable that even with the crappy staging, I still enjoyed myself a tad bit more than I did at "Addams."
Taylor -- please don't waste your money.
Mind you, I say that as someone (one of the few on BWW apparently) who liked the show and is a fan. But as I recall, you called it something like "one of the worst things I ever saw". As someone who continues to be somewhat baffled not so much by those who simply don't care for the show, but by those who display am utterly passionate and vitriolic hatred of the show, and/or its music, and/or its humor, and/or its design and/or all of the above, I'd love to be spared one more rant. Especially when I read it the first time!
That's truly not meant to be insulting to you, by the way (and my apologies if it seems that way). You are of course entitled both to your opinion and to express it as you see fit. But having seen the show again myself this past weekend, I'm pretty confident that it hasn't changed substantially enough in the intervening weeks -- especially judging from the reactions of others here whose sensibilities you often share -- and therefore would recommend you not spend any hard-earned money to see it again.

well that was exposition city...i was cringing at the writing. I don't know if it's just because it's the TV or if it's really that everyone there doesn't want to be, but that seemed really...subdued and low energy, even though the song is more upbeat than Clandango. Hm.
After reading some not so nice things about the show and hearing bad things from a friend who attended a private function where the cast performed 3 songs, I was expecting the worst. I really enjoyed the number they did this evening on Letterman and it now makes me want to see the show. It was fun. I actually liked the song and if the rest of the score is close to this song I would buy it. And I am not a big Lippa fan.

I thought it was a fun number. You can definitely tell that Bebe hates it though.
even within the first minute of the song, I knew I liked Clandango better. I guess I get where they're going with this one, but I thought Clandango was better.
I guess I don't understand what anyone thinks is "fun" about this. Everyone seems low-energy, and I hardly think Bebe is the only one who looks a little embarrassed.

How can you tell Bebe hates it? What a rediculous statement. SHe is basically channeling Carolyn Jones, the original Morticia from the series. I thought she came off beautifully on TV,and very much the character. Do you expect her to run around with exagerrated energy like a high school drama student?
I thought it was fun, I cracked a smile a few times. Bebe does seems like she is playing a character. Are the Addams supposed to be "high energy"?

Add me to the "fun" camp. I'm liking it more after watching it a 2nd time.
I agree. It's pretty clear that Bebe is playing the character.

They're creepy and they're kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They're all together ooky,
The Addams Family.
I know they're not doing the TV series ,but that does encapsulate the family, high energy:not necessarily. They're also not playing a cartoon,They're playing a weird-ass real family that live in a mansion in modern day Central Park. Or at least that's what they want us to believe.
I am with the Bebe playing the character crowd. I mean Morticia isn't what I would call a high energy person! I didn't think Bebe looked embarrased at all. I thought she was a good choice for the role and really wanted to see her perform it. I grew up with the show and I think she was a good choice after seeing her this evening.
I don't understand why everyone is hating on this show. That looked like a pretty great opening number to me. Bebe didn't look thrilled, but I saw it more as a character choice. Maybe I'm wrong.
For some reason I also feel that it worked better on Letterman than it did on stage. I definitely need to go back in a few weeks.
