Twilight Zone: the Musical is more like it.
A fascinating, confounding work that really gives one hope for the future of musical theater. Striking performances and impeccably dark production design. Score isn't entirely hummable, but very memorable, and there are a few melodies that I'm still humming. A bit slow during the dialogue scenes, but a lot of the sarcastic jokes made up for it.
I had no idea what was going on half the time, which made the whole damn thing even more memorable.
Thanks to Jay and Frogs and Foster and everyone else for the recommendation. Glad I let your raves convince me to head to Minetta Ln.

Everyone should run downtown and see this amazing show.
I must say, this show sounds RIGHT up my alley. I'd totally go see it if I could get to New York in the next few days.
At least there's a cast recording. ^_^

Twilight Zone: The Musical is the PERFECT description.
Yankeefan- I am glad that you like it. Its really an incredible show and everyone ( I think) should experience this 'expressionist' play/musical and think outside the box!

Loved the show too Yankeefan. Just a side note, but I saw Amy Warren at Passing Strange on the fourth and she really seemed to be enjoying herself!
I was curious to see what you would think of it, Yankee. Glad you liked it.
Get the recording!! ; )

Twilight Zone The Musical doesn't begin to do the show justice. ADDING MACHINE is a fascinating and complex work, easily the best new musical of the year.
Almost as good as PASSING STRANGE.
Amy Warren is still giving the greatest musical performance in NYC right now, a true Goddess.
I Love Her.

Of course, nothing can approach the majesty of PASSING STRANGE, the highest accomplishment in the history of human endeavor. PASSING STRANGE stands outside time, like the works of Mozart and Shakespeare and the Bible itself.
When the production is filmed, there will be no excuse for not having experienced the genius of Stew, and his boundary annihilating masterwork PASSING STRANGE. All who decline the experience only contribute to their own destruction.
Deny the genius of Stew and his cancer-curing masterwork at your peril.
HAIL STEW!!!
I seen PASSING STRANGE 12 times now.
I love it sooo much.

Is there a way to hear the OBCR online? I don't know anything about the show but hear from people thats its good. IDK If I should see it b4 it closes. Wasn't it supposed to run till August 31st?
coolkid, mow some lawns this Summer and buy the CD.
It will not show you the beauty of the entire production, but it captures the unusal, beautiful score and some of the magic.
Respected the production but wasn't feeling it on the whole. The afterlife scenes were surreal to the point of obscure. Enjoyed the ending/anagnorisis, though. Score was complex but a bit too amelodic for my tastes. Not saying it was bad or I didn't get the score, just that the intentional clashes were a bit too common for my tastes.
Good off Broadway production, but I certainly don't have the overwhelming praise for it that others have, and certainly don't see it having a life outside of this production. I doubt it'll appeal to any mainstream or unsophisticated audience, leaving downtown off-Bway as its only medium.

I don't have time to buy the CD. Is there a way I could get a feel for the show online b4 I go to NYC
how long does it take to buy CD.
2 seconds.
I kind of agree. I was a little let down. The cast was EXCELLENT. Sometimes there were great musical moments and other times I sat there wondering why the character was singing at that particular moment. I need to give special props to Joe Farrell who had some really magical moments of acting when he first introduces himself to the main character and tells his story, though the entire cast was excellent so I feel strange pointing him out specifically. I mean everyone had their moments and I never wondered for a moment why a certain actor was cast in the show(as frequently happens to me in Broadway shows.) The book scenes sometimes fell flat, but I left satisfied if not thrilled by what I saw. I would enjoy hearing more from the composers and I'm hoping that all the actors continue working in the NY area so I can catch them in anything and everything. I'd recommend checking it out before it closes. Worth the price of a ticket.
Show itself- B
Performances of this ensemble: A+

I saw ADDING MACHINE again last night, and it really holds up to a repeat visit. The show is so dense and that score is so intricate that it can't be appreciated on a single viewing/hearing. The cast is beyond reproach: especially Cyrilla Baer's Mrs. Zero, Joel Hatch's Mr. Zero, Joe Farrell's Shrdlu, and most particularly Amy Warren's devastating Daisy.
I'm sorry that I won't be able to see this production again.
Weeks later, I can't get that scene/number with adding the numbers out of my head. It was very effective. You keep thinking enough is enough, but that of course is the point of it. It works!
