I didn't know anything about Sweeney Todd & Soundheim so embarrassed that I call myself a "theater fan" while not knowing anything about Soundheim, I finally went and watched Sweeney Todd last night; with no idea what the storyline or anything else was, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Soundheim is as brilliant & witty as others have said.
But there are a few questions I have about the show, can someone PM me who is a Sweeney Todd expert & has seen the show on Broadway? Some of the minimalistic props they used...the symbolic representation was lost on me.
I just discovered that netflix has Broadway: the American musical on demand/instantplay. I did a search for some reviews and found this thread. I am kind of embarassed that I don't know the stories/plots for the following shows:

Les Miz, except "I Deamed a Dream.
Spring Awakening but I got tix for the tour
August Osage County aside of the whole dysfunctional family.
Les Miserables, and honestly I don't really want to spend the time to learn.
Anyone who said Sunday in the Park With George, I recommend getting the Sunday DVD recording of the OBC. It's an amazing show and you should get into it. One of my favorite shows ever.
A few Sondheim shows...Merrily, Passion, ...
Grandhotel
Ragtime
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
I have the DVD of the Sunday in the Park With George OBC, and, frankly, I hated it. I really wanted to love it, and I've heard that Sunday is an acquired taste, so I think I'm going to rewatch it again soon. And I know nothing about:
Kiss of the Spiderwoman
Carousel
State Fair
A Little Night Music
Hair
Hello, Dolly
Tick, Tick, BOOM!
Ragtime
Sunday In The Part With George
RENT
Xanadu
Hello Dolly
Miss Saigon
Wow. Some people really need to discover Sondheim. Theater is never the same one you make the discovery.

the list is longer. i'm embarrassed... i call myself a theatre geek without knowing what the hell is going on in a lot of shows. But I'm IN LOVE with A LOT of shows, so that counts for something.
EDIT: I have started my researching. I had no idea what I was missing with not knowing all these shows.

Haha...I remember this thread!
At least people still aren't saying Sweeney Todd as much as they were in 06! I guess we can thank the movie for that one. Now if someone with butloads of money will decide to produce a Sunday in the Park with George and Merrily We Roll Along feature film, we'll be set.
I know that it would probably be a show that I would love, but Ragtime.
Mostly older shows, like Mame, Pal Joey and Babes in Arms. Some others of the top of my head:
Anyone Can Whistle
Candide
Brigadoon
Kismet
Grand Hotel
Contact
Shenandoah
42nd Street
Aspects of Love
The Rink
Woman in White
Starlight Express
Oh! Calcutta!
Baby
A New Brain
Any musical with the word Falsetto anywhere in the title
And even though I have the music practically memorized on each, I would really like to see productions of both A Little Night Music and Pacific Overtures, because I only know a little of the each story lines and would love to see them put together!

I might as well admit to it all, EXCEPT:
Phantom of the Opera
Cats
Camelot!
JCS
Wicked
A Tale of Two Cities
(just as a note...I put them in the order I've seen them...

I have to admit, I JUST discovered Caroline, or Change...wow! What a great show! I like to go to Barnes and Nobles and get a cast recording of a show I know nothing about to further my love for broadway and beyond! :O) That's how I discovered Children of Eden a few months ago.
I feel kind of bad that I still haven't gotten to know Follies yet, but I love everything else Sondheim, so I need to get my butt in gear!
Hair
Pal Joey
Tale of Two Cities
...those are the only ones I could think of off the top of my head.
[title of show]-I have listened to some of the songs and I get the basic gist of the show, but I haven't seen it and I don't know that much about it (other than it has some really funny voice messages with Sutton Foster and Patti LuPone apparently and that there are 4 people in the cast). I've also seen some of the Title of Show Show on YouTube.
Sweeney Todd-I know some of the songs, I get the basic story, but I don't know that much about it. I've never seen it.
Into the Woods-I saw it a long time ago (when I was like , so I don't remember that much about it (besides the witch, who freaked me out and that Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood were in it).
The Last 5 Years-One of my friends was the girl part in this show at a professional dinner theatre in Virginia. She promised to show me the video of her production, but then she moved to LA and I haven't talked to her in like a year. (She was being auditioned for Ariel in TLM a lot and came VERY close to it). I also know some of the story to this (based on JRB's life and has a song called Shiksa something in it.) I also know who was in it off-Broadway, but I don't know that much about it.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels-But I bought "Great Big Stuff" on iTunes awhile ago. Loved it, but don't have a clue about the show.
Cabaret-Saw some of the movie on a flight to London last year, but forgot about it. Oh, and I know "Willkommen" (who doesn't?)
Assassins-I get the plot, but I don't know anything about the show, really.
