Stars aren’t born. They’re made. From Executive Producer Steven Spielberg, there’s nothing more exciting than the opening night of a hit Broadway musical, except what it takes to get there. Starring Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, and introducing Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty, this new series proves the real drama happens backstage. Smash premieres Monday, February 6 at 10/9c after The Voice on NBC.
* Passes and seating are first come, first serve. Seating is not guaranteed. Each person may RSVP for up to two guests.

The previews actually look excellent. I hope it's good.
Anybody else notice that the commercial has gone from saying "Broadway sensation Megan Hilty" to "Introducing Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee" ?

Posted: 12/30/11 at 11:19amThe pilot was good, but the issue with all pilots is that there is a lot to setup and introduce. Once you do that, the trick is keeping viewers interested. Based on the pilot...I'm not sure if I'm going to be interested in the lead characters (McPhee and Hilty). I'm more interested in Messing, Borle, and Houston's characters.

It was shown in NYC the other day.

Posted: 12/30/11 at 1:47pmA recent newspaper article stated the stage portions were shot in a run down theater in Staten Island. Someone ought to get their facts straight as the theater is far from rundown. The St George was just restored and is an operating theater. A feel good story about a group of women who, against all odds, brought back a beautiful movie palace from ruin to being a first class entertainment venue again.

Just got back from one of the screenings. I am very excited for the world to see this show. It has a great storyline and I absolutely love the new original songs from the (always) great Shaiman/Wittman duo.
The theatre was packed and very enthusiastic about the show. I heard so many people making great comments about the show and how they cannot wait for the show to begin in February.
Each of us were handed a Playbill for the show and on the inside it had headshots of the entire cast and production team and small summaries of the show and everyone involved. And on the back, it had a "Rivalries Crossword" puzzle in regards to Ivy and Karen's competing for the role of Marilyn. Questions ranged from shows and movies like, "Wicked", "Mamma Mia", "Bridesmaids", etc.
We were also handed a small leaflet with a QR code that links to an exclusive video of the show and that the show's Facebook will feature exclusive content and sweepstakes, along with the tagline: "The next big Broadway hit will be on TV."
Ushers made it a huge concern to turn off cell phones and if any were seen, then we would be escorted out of the theatre. Just a side note, there.
The pilot was great and I think it has a bright future ahead. After ths screening, we were shown an extended sneak peek of the entire season and features more original songs, as well as Katharine McPhee doing a cover of "Rumour Has It" by Adele. The show could even work on the big screen by the response our audience gave and how big some of the production numbers were. After the season sneek peak, they repeated the pilot again.
There was no mention regarding the recent news of the pilot being available soon on iTunes, NBC.com, etc. Really hope this show does well and after tonight's multiple screenings, hopefully it gets some good buzz and word-of-mouth.

Posted: 1/9/12 at 11:23pmi think it will be a smash. just got back from the screening tonight in chicago and i enjoyed it a lot. the music is really good. and it's well directed. it made me interested in the characters and their upcoming storylines. oh and during the q&a, the producers said bernadette peters will be in the 4th episode( if i remember correctly) as megan hilty's character's mom. but they also said nick jonas will be in future episodes too (goodluck). and that it got a lot of interests from many broadway stars to appear in it like patti lupone.
