Advice Regarding My Upcoming Trip

I’m going to be in New York for 7 nights (September 27 - October 4) to see Madonna twice plus a bunch of shows.

Here’s my schedule so far:

Friday, September 27 - Hadestown (purchased)

Saturday, September 28 - TKAM (matinee), Moulin Rouge! (evening) - (both already purchased)

Sunday, September 29 - probably Oklahoma! (Matinee), Ben Platt in concert (purchased)

Monday, September 30 - maybe Tootsie or Little Shop of Horrors, but either would probably prevent me from seeing Freestyle Love Supreme at 10:00 p.m. Nothing purchased yet for Monday Night.

Tuesday, October 1 - Madonna

Wednesday, October 2 - Betrayal (matinee, purchased). For evening show, I’m considering The Wrong Man, The Sound Inside, Slave Play or Little Shop (if I don’t see it Monday Night).

Thursday, Otcober 3 - Madonna

I’m sorry to be that guy who asks for advice. I know everyone is different. But I can appreciate others opinions to factor into my final decisions. Hopefully, my past posts give frequent posters some insight into my preferences and what might resonate with me.

I’m seeking advice for Monday night and Wednesday night. Everything else is pretty much set. Other than Tootsie (and Little Shop), I don’t know much about my other options.

Specifically:

For those who saw FLS in its previous iteration, would it be worth missing a Monday evening show to see it?

Monday night options if I skip FLS: I’ve been wanting to see Tootsie since it was announced, but I know it’s been polarizing. On other hand, I would love to see Groffsauce live in Little Shop. I missed him when I saw OBC of Hamilton as he was out filming Looking movie (I got Andrew Rannells - not exactly chopped liver). I see tix for LITTLE SHOP are almost gone for my two nights and I suppose Tootsie might (but probably won’t) close before I see it so that might make decision for me.

Wednesday night - I’m honestly not sure what to do. I keep confusing Slave Play with White Noise (is that the right name?). I know it was polarizing. The Wrong Man sounds promising, but I know from seeing Superhero earlier this year that magic doesn’t occur every-time just because you like the creatives. The Sound Inside just sounds intriguing.

FYI - I also considered The Inheritance, but only Part 1 is playing while I’m there and I don’t want to see one without the other.

I also hope to make it back the first half of next year. And I think most of the Ben Platt bashers are now gone, but no need to suggest I sell my ticket. The ticket is bought, I’m going, and I’m excited. Ditto for Madonna. She’s my favorite artist and if it wasn’t for her concerts, I wouldn’t be making this trip at this time. In fact, I extended my trip to see her again from the front row on Thursday.

Lastly, sorry this is so long. This is a sampling of what’s running through my head right now. Lol. And sorry for another of those “which show” posts...

First thought is that FLS has a 10 PM curtain on Mondays so there's a chance you can fit in 2 shows that night, depending.

From there, Slave Play is an interesting concept but beyond that, there's not a ton of "there" there IMO, so it's skippable if there's something else that compels you (though a solid choice if not).

Agree that Sound Inside sounds interesting, but just it's not going to be *that* hot a ticket, so I'm waiting for some buzz and you'll be safe if you do too and decide you want to go.

Was going to do the same for The Wrong Man, given that I also loathed Superhero (and had a pretty bad time at most of the other new original musicals I saw this season, Strange Loop being the primary exception). But! I looked it up and the "world premiere" billing is false; it premiered in LA a few years ago with a no-name cast and creative team to mostly strong reviews; was even recognized by some local theatre awards. Still a bit of a gamble, but that background plus Josh Henry (not to mention the rest of the powerhouse team) was enough to convince me to jump on it at noon tomorrow.

My advice would be to go for Tootsie and LSOH. Obviously no one's seen Little Shop yet, but with that amazing cast, it's sure to be amazing. And as for Tootsie, I loved it! The music isn't that amazing, but that really does not matter. The book is just so hilarious, and Santino gives a crazy performance.

Hold up Miles doesn't live in nyc? This is unexpected.

Wednesday, October 2 - Betrayal (matinee, purchased). For evening show, It’s now between Tootsie or Oklahoma!. It will almost certainly be Oklahoma! (Tootsie has been high on my radar since it’s out-of-town try-out, but I know it is supposed to tour plus it may close by time of my trip or else maybe it’ll still be playing when I’m back in 2020.) (Oklahoma! is also supposed to tour; in fact, it starts its tour here in Oklahoma City, but I can’t imagine it’ll match the unique staging at CITS)

Thursday, October 3 - Madonna (purchased)

Thanks again! No matter how long my trip is, I never seem to have enough time to see everything!

I'm surprised Ben Platt scheduled a performance on the first night of Rosh Hashana.

Looks like an exciting trip, Miles2Go2!!!! Will be there at the Ben Platt concert at Radio City music hall so hope to see you there!!!
