I don't think the Genie has to be blue to be effective. James was wonderful as the Genie just by being himself. He didn't need any additional make-up. The costume was enough to convey who he was. What the production needed improvement on was the sets and the book. Otherwise, it was good.

In my opinion, whether or not the Genie is blue is determined on how the show is being represented. If the show is trying to following the look/style of the Disney film, it would be necessary for the Genie to be blue. However, if the show is more taking an ethnic/traditional style, then it wouldn't be necessary for the Genie to blue since traditional Genies aren't blue.
In my opinion, either way is fine. However, I think the Genie being blue is fun. As long as it's done right. The Aladdin show at Disneyland is perfect - but I've seen it done very very badly.
I hear from a very reliable source that rising star Danny Marin will be Aladdin's understudy. He has been understudy for a male character in WICKED previously, if anyone's seen him...
I couldn't find anyone of that name. Do you mean, Danny Mac? He understudied Boq at one point

Nope. I don't think Danny Marin has a Wikipedia page or anything yet, but I know him because he graduated from high school a couple of classes ahead of me. According to his Facebook page, after moving to New York he got a gig with LEGALLY BLONDE and is currently part of the WICKED team. He was also selected as an understudy for a member of "Vocal Adrenaline" on GLEE, and was lucky enough to get a few seconds of airtime. I have also heard from a close friend of his roommate's that he will be an understudy for Aladdin.
The Press Release with a full cast announcement should be out this week. Stay Tuned!

Bump....whatever happened to the cast being announced yesterday??
Had anyone said that it was going to be yesterday specifically? I've just read that it was going to be sometime within the next couple of weeks
I'm almost positive Famebroadway2 had said yesterday then edited to say 'this week' it for whatever reason. Nonetheless, still excited.

The official website has been updated with the new logo.
(Ironically the theatre in Toronto just changed their signage this week with the old logo...)

You'd think that Mirvish and Disney would like y'know, communicate about that sort of thing. Unless they decided that they wanted to go with that version for the marquee.

Love the Genie logo! I love it when shows use a simple, memorable graphic for the marketing as opposed to weirdly photoshopped hawt people. Also tips its hat a tiny bit to the enormous Al Hirschfeld influence on the film's look, I believe.
Yesterday was supposed to be the full announcement, but now the Casting announcement has been pushed back until mid Sept.

I love the logo, the genie looks great! I'm very curious about this, will definitely see it when it comes out. I loved the movie when I was younger. It would be interesting to see how it would work as a musical.
Rhea Patterson and Bobby Pestka will join in the Broadway production

The wise word around town is that Barbara Cook has just signed to play Princess Jasmine. Can't wait!
Depending on how long her First Date contract is for, I'd love to see Krysta Rodriguez as Jasmine
