Before her Tony Award win, I didn't know much about Alice Ripley. But even I was awestruck by her incoherent rambling in her speech. Apparently, she is known for straying into "space cadet" land at times. RC in Austin, Texas... where it's a cold 58 F.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

It' an act, people. I heard it directly from her at the stage door. She said she does the videos to make herself laugh, and she's surprised that people watch them because she's just being "stupid."

All the best Broadway stars are a little bit offkilter.
She's a bit nutty (in a good way)nand she's having fun.
It's sorta like Christine Ebersole boppin' and boogiein'.

Ok, so its an act. That's beside the point. She's not posting the videos saying IM NOT A NUT before them...
She's posting them as Alice Ripley, not in character, and not with a disclaimer so she had to know people would be WTFing about it. And its not like she posted four videos, she's been posting videos for months.
I think they're hilarious but still...a little crazy. Joke or not. And I love the woman.
Act or not, its admittedly odd. I mean, come on.
But you go Alice. Whatever floats your boat...and provides entertainment for me...is a-okay.

I love when something is described to you and you think to yourself "they have to be exaggerating". Just watch a few. Nope, if anything my husband was being kind when describing these to me.

Question: Does being a ripely fan automatically equal crazy? Are there varying degrees?

There are varying degrees of crazy in life. I find that "normal" people are boring and not worth my time.

Some of the newer fans she's acquired since Next to Normal opened are a tad over enthusiastic. And that's putting it nicely. I've been a fan for awhile and I think she's insanely talented, but I'm not doing the stuff that these people are doing.

You're being far to kind, allie. Some of her fans are nuts. Absolutely nuts.

The show in general now has MANY totally insane fans. It's quite scary. It turns me off from wanting to see the show again.

Every show has "crazy" fans, and of course being a fan of said show or performer doesn't automatically make you crazy.
Though, it seems Ms. Ripley has fueled a new strain of ultra-crazy fangirls.

For me, she hasn't been able to top the school project project.
My personal opinion is that Alice doesn't have "what it takes". I hope she proves me wrong...I doubt she will.

I think she's insanely talented, and I also think she's insane. Depending on whether you think they're an act or sincere, her Youtube videos just add flame to one of two fires.

"Crazy" isn't a bad thing as long as it's not harmful to anyone. We're all a bit crazy anyway. Some of us just choose to embrace it. I've always embraced my eccentricity and I applaud Alice and others like her for doing the same.

At first I was a little weirded out, but now I think the videos are so funny. My sister is absolutely terrified of them though. If I play one of them, my sister will literally shut her eyes and cover her ears until I take it off. She's a big fan of Alice and Next to Normal, I don't know why she gets scared though. It's hilarious.

Crazy? Perhaps.
Narcissistic? For sure.

Does anyone know what actually went down when she was allegedly "Censored?" and started deleting her vids?
Anways, she seemed to jump back on board pretty quickly. I guess every artist needs to reinvent themselves.

Rocks, I've been trying to distance myself from some of the fandom so I don't the extent that the crazy has been brought too. From these posts, I can only assume it's a lot worse. My comment was just from what I've seen firsthand.
