I mean, it has definitely caught some momentum in the last few weeks with all performances sold out or nearly sold out.
As I’ve told many people, it’s definitely a spiritual cousin of BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB with a bit of XANADU mixed in. It’s an odd combo, and I’ve mentioned the book needs tightening, but (like someone said) if they kill some darlings, it could be a hit and Lord knows we are craving for original works. If anything, the score alone is worthy of celebration.
IMHO, there are too many external conflicts for Marimba and Omari - if they can focus morein on their budding connection in spite of their familial expectations, then you have a much tighter story."
Eh the Newman only holds 299 seats that's not hard to fill for a limited engagement and we just don't see this on broadway or finding an audience. It had its moment at the Public.
Is the "Moto Moto Presents: NIGHTS IN MOMBASA." album essentially an EP of some of the songs from this show?

Yes
@Kad, Yes I would not argue with that span of time! Though in Oskar's earlier years the Public put a bunch of its own money into Broadway transfers and it didn't work out financially (Bloody Bloody, Chinglish, etc), something which also happened during Wolfe’s tenure.
The other problem with the Public is that it’s so big. Anyone working on a show there is not getting much day-to-day face time with Oskar. There are a lot of deputies who will be the primary point of contact — and there’s been a lot of turnover in those ranks. The Public also typically charges a little more for an “enhancement” agreement. If you try a show out at Atlantic or Playwrights Horizons, you’re getting a lot more attention from the AD.
Regardless, he's had a tenure that any arts leader should be proud of.
Here’s a clip of the end of “Nadira’s Aria” from closing night that’s been making the rounds.

Amber was stellar casting, I don't think anyone could have nailed the role the way she did. She looked stunning and sounded incredible.
Hoping this has some kind of life post-closing -- I feel like a cast recording may not be likely at this point, but I'd love to be able to listen to the music again in full. The Nights in Mombasa EP doesn't quite scratch the itch.
