Posted: 7/3/09 at 4:49pmIt never seems convincing when I see Julia play the role of a mother. Recently, I suggested Daphne Rubin-Vega (and I wasn't eaten for it, people actually agreed). DRV is a family woman, so she probably wouldn't tour.

Posted: 7/3/09 at 4:52pmSherie would never tour (unless it was in her own work). I think she'd be an interesting Diana. I would love it if Alice would do the tour. Daphne would polarize audiences and critics with her singing. She's not palatable enough across the boards to cast as the lead in a risky tour.

Posted: 7/3/09 at 4:55pmHAHAHA. I was waiting to get eaten. I think DRV has a very unique voice that splits audiences in have. I happen to love her rock-style voice (even though I thought casting her in Les Miz made no sense). To be honest, Alice Ripley does no different, people either love her voice or they can't stand it.

Posted: 7/3/09 at 4:57pmJazz, I wasn't eating you alive. :) I love DRV but her voice would split people. I actually like her in Les Miz. DRV always brings the emotion, the vulnerability, and the affect.

*breathes sighs of relief*
I definitely agree with you about her acting. I just found her 'I Dreamed a Dream' to be a bit of an awkward fit for her voice.

Posted: 7/3/09 at 5:06pmI find it very hard to come up with actresses to replace Ripley. Either they seem like they would not fit the part or have the singing voice or just be lacking that dynamic quality. Alice really has made this part hers.

Posted: 7/3/09 at 5:08pmOy...I think Daphne Rubin Vega would be a hot mess as Diana. And I agree what someone said about Julia Murney's voice, wouldn't fit the rock score. The casting is definitely make or break for the tour.

I gonna totally shill here, but I think my friend was BORN to play Natalie in N2N and pray that she is considered for the tour. Check out her stuff here: http://www.youtube.com/user/FarbSongs (One of the songs she sings is one I wrote, but really all of them show the amazing tone and emotional resonance she has with each song). I think in particual her version of Pasek and Paul's "I Once Knew" shows of a very "Natalie" feel

Posted: 7/3/09 at 10:16pmi think they should have alice do the tour and have sherrie do the show on broadway. alice would be a good way to get people in the seats(tony award winner).

"i think they should have alice do the tour and have sherrie do the show on broadway. alice would be a good way to get people in the seats(tony award winner)."
I can't see Sherie ever doing a replacement role, especially one she workshopped seven years earlier.

I wouldn't like to see Sherie as Diana. As much as I lover her... just, no.
JULIA MURNEY PLEASE.
Also, for Dan... I would really like to see Brian D'Arcy James' re-attempt at "newer" Dan since the character has changed since 2ST. I think as long as he's flexible with the changes that his character will have undergone, he could still be incredible in the role. He will just have to avoid reverting to his old acting style for Dan in 2008.
Any takers?
PS, maybe Meghann Fahy could do Natalie on the tour because people seem to really like her? Just a thought.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 8:06amI think Leah Hocking would do a bang up job with the role. She's a fantastic pop singer, and a very hard working actress. Don't know if she'd be willing to tour as she has a young daughter.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 8:26amd'Arcy James said in an interview that he is not interested in returning to the role. He said he feels like it would be a step backward in his career.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 10:13amI could see that. He's getting paid big bucks to star in a show on Broadway, so why would he take a replacement gig in a dinky national tour?
#42re: An N2N tour IS in the works..
Posted: 7/4/09 at 11:10amWell, for this show to get much interest in the tour community, they've GOT to find someone in the cast the John Q Public knows. It's going to be a tough sell, anyway, but if you put a star in one part, it will generate interest. Audiences in Charlotte, NC aren't going to see a show about manic depression with Julia Murney in the lead.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 11:46amUgh I really hope they don't get some dumb pop tart to play Natalie. I do agree that a big name would help generate interest nationwide but never in my life would I go see N2N with like....Ashlee Simpson or Avril Lavigne or someone equally heinous in that role. lol or Miley Cyrus. AGH!! I'm just so excited this show is touring, though, so it's 99.9% likely that I'll see it no matter who they cast.

Hanna from Hamburg,
I doubt that the general public knows who Alice Ripley either is either, so are you suggesting that they cast an actual celebrity? (I'm not trying to be snarky or anything, just curious)

I'm not saying that at all. Just that a NY Theatre audience is COMPLETELY different than audiences for touring productions. And I'm not trying to put down touring audiences, or this show, just that I see it as a "hard-sell" for most locations. I mean MAYBE someone would say "rock musical, by the director of RENT, okay I'll go see this thing about manic depression."
I LOVED the show, I just don't know if middle-America will know anything about it or be drawn to it without a "hook."

One thing to remember is that this isn't not going to be a full on national tour. It is going to be a 'mini-tour'. The only confirmed city is Chicago, but it will probably go to cozy venues in the top 10 theatre districts outside of NYC. It'll go to places such as LA, Boston, Cleveland, San Francosco ect...

Posted: 7/4/09 at 2:54pmI don't want to see it butchered, either. I'm trying to think of who I'd like to see in one of the main roles who would be recognizable to many people. Haven't come up with anyone that I feel is perfect.

Posted: 7/4/09 at 3:01pmI don't think re-casting in NYC would be hard, but re-casting for a tour is going to be a b-i-t-c-h.
