Hey guys, have any of you purchased the Anastasia vinyl from the Broadhurst Theater? If so, how much does it cost? I'm trying to decide whether to buy it from broadwayrecords.com or in person at the theater.

I think the OP means cast recording, as it was just released on vinyl this past week. No clue if they're selling it at the theatre, though.

It is a shame that people choose to be snarky and condescending instead of answering the obvious albeit misstated question. Why choose rudeness over helpfulness?
To the OP: I don’t have specific pricing but in my experience CDs and the like are often more expensive at the theatre vs. online.

I agree. I like the original artwork more than the current artwork. However, Christy sure does look stunning in the red dress lol

fans of musical theatre need to eventually learn that cast recordings are not called soundtracks and when you call them that it bespeaks the lack of knowledge

Well said. The show has been advertising the new Vinyl for a couple weeks now so I thought the intentions of the OP were very clear.

I agree that using the correct terminology is better. However, people are not born with this knowledge and must learn it somewhere. What if this person was a new fan to theatre and had no idea they had made a mistake? Either of the two posters above could have politely explained the difference.
"Hey OP. Maybe you're new to theatre. The correct term is 'cast recording' etc." And then answer their question.
By mocking them and/or being rude, nothing is being accomplished other than potentially running off a new board member and fan of theatre. Shouldn't we be encouraging new fans of the art form and helping them learn?

Ceej,
Totally agree with you but the sad thing is that some people just can't help themselves.

Posted: 12/17/18 at 4:04pmmusical theater fans have explained this to newbies i assume for decades and i guess it’s gotten to the point where it’s exhausting. it’s almost 2019, the knowledge of basically everything in the universe is in a metal rectangle in your pocket and you still can’t be bothered to learn the correct terminology for something that’s been around for about 75 years? “soundtrack” is a very specific thing, cast recordings are decidedly not that same thing. are they similar? sure! and everyone who snarkily corrects newbies about the term knows they’re similar! but it’s still not correct and if some people teaching you the right thing on a message board scare you away from being a fan of the artform you probably already didn’t care enough to stick around anyway.

Since, in typical BWW fashion, y’all just want to be snobby instead of answering the question...
I do not know how much the vinyl is at the theatre but the list price is $39.99, so I am assuming that is how much it will be. It’s a bit cheaper at Barnes and Noble, $33 and some change, and you get free shipping.

This seems to be a Barnes & Noble exclusive item. I was just on their site and looks like they have a promo code for 20% if you spend $40. The Vinyl is just over $33 so you'll have to purchase something else to get the 20% off but looks like shipping is free regardless.

By this logic teachers should just stop since they've been explaining the same thing for years. I don't mean any disrespect to you or anyone else, but my point is simple - the responses were snarky/rude and not helpful. If you don't want to have to explain it again, I can understand that. But simply don't reply. The hostility is unnecessary and unhelpful.
And what if this person had walked into a music store or bookstore and seen the musical recordings in the "SOUNDTRACKS" section, as is often the case? They wouldn't know any better. I suspect if you went to any Broadway or touring theatre and asked for the proper terminology, a large number of people would say soundtrack. Should they be expected to have searched for the correct term? Are we going to banish them from seeing shows if they get it wrong? It's an easy mistake to make and many do.
It's completely unreasonable to expect any person to know everything just because they have access to it on their phone or computer. People make mistakes, use wrong terms, mis-spell words, etc. And when they do, we can be mean and condescending, we can point out the mistake in a helpful way, or we can simply be quiet.
This world (and this message board) would be a better place if people chose silence or helpfulness over meanness.

Agreed. I'm dumbfounded at times by how ignorant people on here can be.

I was there saturday, they didn't sell it at the merch stand. That may have changed, though.
