Well, I can't speak to whether Skinner "didn't want" to do MERMAID or not - but I can vouch that there are a lot of people in the industry who won't work for Disney Theatricals. Mostly based on the fact of their paltry salaries.
"I think Betty Buckley would have been a terrific Ursula."

What happened with the On the Record incident?

I don't think everyone should be worried about the transformation.
Disney has had success with stage doubles in Beauty and the Beast, and it was also effective in Into the Woods.
I can't wait for Sherie!
"You guys are forgetting one singular issue here: Miss Scott was quite liked during her run in Aida. Disney produced that.
Miss Skinner, unfortunately, burned her Disney bridge with On the Record."
I was thinking the same thing. Sherie has a history with Disney, so she probably had some pull there. She (along with Heather Headley and Adam Pascal) was invited to opening night of Mary Poppins. Obviously Disney is still in good graces with all three of their leads from Aida. While Skinner's voice is perfectly suited for Ursula, I still think Sherie will do a great job with the role.
is this new?
Disney's catch: a Denverite for "Mermaid"
By John Moore

Disney's next Broadway juggernaut will be made in Denver. So was the woman now expected to star in it. Sierra Boggess, a 2000 graduate of George Washington High School, has been offered the role of Ariel in "The Little Mermaid," set to debut in July at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in preparation for its Broadway run that opens for previews in November.

This is news to me. Maybe I'll go and see it now. Although I can't picture her in that role...
I am extremely excited to see Sherie's take on the role of Ursula. Sure, sure, we all see it as an overweight purple wench with tentacles and a fat a**, but I really do think that she will do an incredible job creating the character as something other than that from the movie.
Plus, I love her...
CAN'T WAIT!
Skinner would have been Great in the role, sure...but I think we all knew in the back of our heads that it wasn't going to happen.
I was hoping for Mary Testa, who I think could sing the hell out of that role.
But I gotta say, I'm happy with Sherie - the woman is a hell of a talent and should do a very nice job.
There is 2 things that are lurking in the back of my head and I hope someone can help.
1.) Is Sherie Rene Scott playing Ursula OFFICIAL?
2.) Is the show REALLY going to be a Rollerskate Version? Please tell me it isn't.
Thank You :)

how about a fabulous woman named Kaitlin Hopkins who replaced Skinner in the OTR tour? um, she maybe kicked Poor Unfortunate Souls' Disney patootie.
and finally, wheelies, not skates.
interesting ... but what's a wheelie?
Heely's not Wheelies
Anyone who was foolish enough to put themselves through 'The Little Mermaid 2' has seen a skinny Ursula. It um... well, the whole film was a travesty really, so I can't especially comment here. Anyway. ^_^

While Sherie was certainly not who I could have guessed to get the part, she is a tremedously talented women, and I think she can really mold it into something great. She is a comic genius, so maybe she will pull out a different side to Ursula as well...

I'd go with Rosie O'Donnell...no stretch for acting there.

Should've been Mary Testa, no offense to Ms. Scott.

And if you look at some early drawings of Ursula they tried skinny versions.
Where are those?
