Andrea Burns as Diana

I N2N Do you guys think she could pull it off, she has wonderful soprano and has great belt zone, but the acting not sure what about you guys.

Andrea Burns as Diana

Yes! I've been thinking this for a couple years.;

Andrea Burns as Diana

and she wants to do it “It would be really cool to do Diana in Next to Normal. That would definitely take a lot of emotional stamina, but I just think it’s such a great show, and the writers put together such a fantastic role. It would just be wonderful to get a shot at it. Hopefully there’s time for that — I’m sure it’s going to be done all over the country for years to come.
Where do i go to finance this?

Andrea Burns as Diana

That might be worth a late summer trip up to Ithaca. I'd be very curious to see her take on the role.

Andrea Burns as Diana

Burns will be great in the role, but I'm more interested in Emily Skinner playing Maria in LEND ME A TENOR.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I'd love to try to make it for Lend Me a Tenor. Sadly I know there is no way my schedule will allow me to go see Next to Normal.

Andrea Burns singing I Miss the Mountains from the 2012 Broadway Cruise... (so excited - I'm seeing this twice in Ithaca!)

Anakela, thank you so much for posting that link. I think Burns sounded great and would love to hear her take on the rest of the score. Very jealous that you get to see this twice. I'm excited to hear back from you and others on how her Diana stacks up.

Andrea Burns as Diana

Andrea is amazing, but that was VERY Ripley-esque.
#12

Andrea Burns as Diana

If I didn't know otherwise I'd assume 3:13-3:32 is Ripley in slightly better voice :P
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Here's a different (longer, and better quality) video of the same Broadway Cruise performance of I Miss the Mountains.

Anybody in NYC have a car I can borrow for a few days so I can catch it next week? Andrea Burns as Diana

Andrea Burns as Diana

That set is unbelievably hideous. Andrea looks great though.

Andrea Burns as Diana

What's with the light-speed tempo of You Don't Know/I Am The One?

Andrea Burns as Diana

And people here said the Melbourne Gabe was long in the tooth :P

(Andrea Burns as Diana )

Perhaps I'm shallow, but I feel that the Gabes I have seen around in Regional Productions recently are deviating further and further from the Aaron Tveit/Kyle Dean Massey mold, and the show is a bit less enjoyable when Gabe isn't "Dashing. Bright. Playful. Everything a mother could dream".

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

Andrea Burns as Diana

From the video it seems that Burns is making the mistake Emily Skinner made at Second Stage, she is playing the surface/neurosis. It wasn't until she made it back to Broadway (via DC) that Skinner obviously found that underplaying Diana was the way into the character.

EDIT Sorry about the above, made that Skinner/Ripley mistake I always make...

Really liked the set. Andrew Burns and the actress that played Natalie stand out!
#22

Andrea Burns as Diana

Based off of the video preview, this production looks hideous. The set is plain and boring, the staging looked confused, there was no depth, and the acting looked like it was being done by high schoolers.

Andrea Burns as Diana

I'd love to see Andrea Burns as Diana in another production. She's incredible in this video but Dan and Gabe are just awful.

Andrea Burns as Diana

I got to see Next to Normal at the Hangar last week and really enjoyed it. I never got to catch it in NYC due to living in Ithaca so I had nothing to compare it to and I thought everyone did a wonderful job. The small theater made the show feel even more intimate and while the set is simple/boring it did not effect the performances which were outstanding. Definitely recommend making the trip up there to see Diana and the great cast!
