You are not entitled to a meeting with a Tony-winning actress right after her physically grueling performance, especially at her age. Some people take the stage-dooring fad a little too far. She deserves respect.

It was mentioned in another thread. The woman who is replacing her has had a lot of success, and is well known.
Tovah Feldshuh will be replacing her

What does her not coming out the stage door have to do with anything anyway- she came out when I saw the show and could not have been nicer. For a woman of her age, I can understand needing a break. maybe she was encouraged to take a longer vacation by the powers that be so Tovah would have more time in the role (maybe Tovah would only do it if it was for a certain amount of time) IDK, just a thought.
Her choosing not to stage door is not a problem for me at all. It's not part of her job. I just think taking an entire month off right after winning the Tony is a little disappointing to people who have tickets to the show in August. I can understand a week, but an entire month is a lot for the busy tourist season, and a little more notice would have been nice.
"There should be a rule here that people with join dates in the present year can only post about the weather."
Anyone can comment on here, even if they joined today. Just because someone didn't join a message board a million years ago doesn't mean they aren't experienced or educated in the aspects of theater. What an asinine thing to say.
That being said, Matt, no actor/actress starring on Broadway, off Broadway, or any other stage anywhere in the world, owes you anything. Stage door is something certain actors do. Fans aren't entitled to meet people after shows. You paid for the show. Nothing else. She is great in the show, focus on that, and stop disrespecting Ms. Martin.
I am looking forward to see Tovah though.
I didn't see on Telecharge where it says for how long Martin will be out, or that she'll be out at all.
"Sick of her" because she doesn't always stage door? Jeez! Her obligation is to show up to work, do a good job, and go home. That's IT.
And I love Tovah Feldshuh! Great casting! Wishing Andrea Martin a lovely August off.
Andrea Martin has said time and time again that she has a very hard time doing long runs in shows and almost never stays beyond her initial contract. If they're giving her an entire month off, I can almost guarantee that it's in exchange for her renewing her contract at least another six months.
If having her gone in the short term means having her stay in the long term, I'm all for it. While I'm sure Tovah Feldshuh will be just fine in the interim, no one can replicate the spirit Martin brings to the production.

Dude, if she can't do it, she shouldn't do it, no one is holding a gun to her head BUT, be nice to your adoring fans!
@Matt
@broadwaywaymarty
You two are something else!
Just because she doesn't come out of the stage door from time to time, she's not being nice to her "adoring fans"? Do you understand what she does?
Oh please! If she didn't care about her fans she would have snatched her Tony and left the show for good right after

She does what she does out of choice....be nice to your fans....she's thankfully, not infirmed and 66 in this day and age is not that old...at least say hi to the people who stood for you.
Nowhere on Telecharge does is say anything about Andrea Martin being out in August...
"at least say hi to the people who stood for you."
Poor you. You stood up for a minute and are now complaining that the woman doing circus tricks 8 times a week didn't come talk to you.

I can understand why not meeting someone may be disappointing. That's totally legitimate. However, there seems to be a lack cognizance when disappointment turns into anger or spite. The actions associated with the latter can lead one to believe that this misplaced disappointment is related entitlement issues, which is a possibility, but I won't jump to that conclusion.
Stage Dooring is an extra nice thing that some actors choose to partake in. Since a lot of actors do it, it can seem like second nature that an actor would come out after the show. I urge every theatre fan who has been disappointed at the stage door to change their frame of mind. Be grateful for the performers who do come out, because they did something that isn't required of them. All that your ticket entitles you to is the show. Focus on the positive instead of the negative. Appreciate the ones who do it, instead of shunning the ones that don't. I guarantee that you will have a much more enjoyable experience if you look at it that way.
Remember we don't know anyone's story or circumstances. Let's not forget the Laura Benanti, Into the Woods situation. Hopefully nothing is wrong, but at the end of the day we don't know, and it's none of our business.

For the record, I met Ms. Martin at the stage door after the show in mid-June (post Tonys) and she was lovely. She is giving a wonderful performance, especially considering all the physical stunts she has to do at her age.

Taking a month off is no big deal. Fantasia Barrino did it every couple of days.
But Tasia's different! Tasia needed to take her time! Take ya time, Tas!

Umm i see nothing on Telecharge...? Does anybody have anything official stating this?
Maybe she's dealing with a sick parent or a health issue herself, or who knows what....if the producers gave her a month off, be pissed at them. (Which is just silly anyway.)
As for holding it against ANY actor for not stage dooring...get over yourselves. The only thing any actor 'owes' you is the best performance they can give each and every night. Just because you want 'more' doesn't mean you are entitled to it.
I love the entitlement of certain fans.
Yes, because that's what a true fan thinks: what is in it for me?

I also do not see anything on Telecharge about this.
