first of All My Life, stop being such a jerk. I was asking a question which people answered for me, it's not a big deal.
Now, I watched that youtube Sondheim thing and I must say that she did sound great and I do think she could've pulled off Johanna greatly, and she probably could pull off Amneris, but other people would do better, and she could not be Elphaba the thought is just ridiculous. Also, she still sounds like crap in Ella Enchanted, but she did a great job in the youtube video and I seriously think she would make a great Millie or Charity if they ever made either of those into movies.
Sorry, Jarred03, I completely defer to you in the jerk department. You have me beat by a mile and I am in awe of your abilities.
As I am in awe of Anne's. She is, by-the-way, a trained professional singer who began her career in musical theater and probably would have ended up as one of Broadway's brightest stars were it not for the fact that her pesky absolute beauty looks so darn good on camera that we silly folks out here in Los Angeles started offering her salaries that rivaled the entire production budgets of the shows she was doing, so who can blame the girl?
I suppose the fact that she was the actual choice to star in the movie version of "Phantom of the Opera" should be discounted as well. Hmmmm, she beat out every woman who works on Broadway and probably auditioned for the role (and I can assure you, that means everyone just about everyone in the business who has an agent) but then she was probably chosen for her looks alone, correct?
Oh well, to go on would just make me a big jerk and lord knows, usurping someone who flatly states, apparently with little practical knowledge the fact that Anne Hathaway could never screech like a banshee in "Wicked is not my intention."
The girl has never been in a Broadway show. Why is this on the Broadway board?
Yeah, I think they need to have a board where people can post off-topic things. Oh, they already do!

Thanks for your in-depth and infallible contribution to this thread, Foster.
PLUS she can do the princess wave really well. No one is a better princess than her.
And she can sing very well.
And Millie is a VERY challenging role vocally. Ever tried to sing "Gimme Gimme"?
She's too good to do Wicked. I'd like her in Nine It would make me happy.

I've heard her singing "If I Could Only Dream This World Away" from the Sydmonton workshop of Woman in White, and she's fantastic.
I would've liked to hear her E at the end of What More Do I Need
I adore that song, and I liked her voice, but I didn't love her acting.
One song isn't much to go on, her voice is great and I've liked her in movies.

It's too damn bad she wasn't Christine in the Phantom movie. She might have done more than stand there with her mouth open.
I love her in The Devil Wears Prada because for me personally, any time there is a movie with Meryl Streep in it, the woman totally steals the show. No matter what. As amazing as she was in Devil Wears Prada, Anne held her own really well.
Yes.
I love Anne, and I have to clear up one thing. Unfortunately, she was only nominated for the Rising Star Award, for Once Upon a Mattress. I was a judge that year, and was lucky enough to see her as Winifred. She was amazing. I pushed really hard for her to win that year, but I was out-pushed by others. She absolutely has the chops to handle almost any musical role. I saw it live, and was blown away by her.
"The girl has never been in a Broadway show. Why is this on the Broadway board?"
Because people are discussing roles she has been in, Broadway songs she has sung, and Broadway roles she could hypothetically tackle.
I saw Anne Hathaway as Lili in the Encores production of CARNIVAL about 5 years ago, opposite Brian Stokes Mitchell's Paul. She was absolutely wonderful and sported a polished coloratura with a clean, beautiful top. To use the old addage, she could light up New York with her smile. She has stage presence to spare. Someone put her on Broadway.
I would've liked to see her in the Phantom movie too.

I agree that Anne should've been in Phantom over Emmy Rossum. It would've been nice to see someone who could speak in a tone louder than a whisper and sing play Christine in the film.
I love Anne Hathaway.
Ever since the first preview of PRINCESS DIARIES came out.
I was so glad to hear her sing in ELLA ENCHANTED
And I wished she had been in PHANTOM.
That video of her on Youtube was brilliant.
I adore that girl.
I hope she gets to be in a movie-musical or on Broadway soon.
Another video of her singing something from WOMEN IN WHITE featuring clips of PHANTOM.
Anne hathaway - If I could only dream this world away
She looks like a young LIZA, not like PATTI. Sorry.
Found it. It isn't Kiss Me, though. She sings What More Do I Need (Saturday Night) and then sings in a medley of Opening Doors (Merrily We Roll Along)
Just for the record: She did sing "Kiss Me". I did have a clip of it on my other laptop, but I have no idea if I still have it. I'll look around for it.
Muscle, you're completely right, Ann Hathaway's eyes, pale skin, and general look have always reminded me of Liza Minnelli circa FLORA, THE RED MENACE. I think it'd be great if she ever got to play Liza in a biopic--though their voices couldn't be more different.
I think Anne is greatly talented! Her perofmance in Becoming Jane was inspired.
"I seriously think she would make a great Millie or Charity if they ever made either of those into movies."
Um. I'm pretty sure both have been movies already...
Anyway, Anne sounds great from everything I've heard and I can't wait to see her tackle a major musical role whether it be on Broadway or the screen.
She's OK. I don't think she's the best of her generation or anything like some make her out to be, not by a long shot. Rachel McAdams is way better. I even like Lindsay better.
When I watched "Prada", I was on an airplane I remember, I kept picturing Anne with short hair, and thinking how much she looked like Liza.
