i'm pretty sure when people read this they though of Wicked... But do some teenage wannabe girls' following of shows bothering anyone else?? The three main followings are of WICKED, NEWSIES, and LES MISERABLES (movie)... I should add that I was counseling at a summer camp the other week and a girl who was "obsessed" with Les Miserables had just found out that it was on broadway <.<

PATTI LUPONE FANS!
I adore her (and some of her fans), but Skittles can't stand her (or anyone that likes her) since she kicked him!

I don't frown upon obsessed teenagers - they're kids, give them a break. I'd rather they spend their time being obsessed with a musical than self harming. Going through obsessive phases is normal.
Now the Next to Normal fandom - different story. They're not teenagers and are frightening. Ruined many an Alice Ripley concert for me, and possibly for others as the poor thing can't sell a ticket to save her life anymore. I remember reading on Twitter that one fan wanted to go to the Kitt/Yorkey concert back in March but decided not to because they didn't want to deal with people they said made their life a living hell. To decide to miss a wonderful concert with artists you admire out for that very reason is really, really bad. If I had known in advance of this I would have bought that person a ticket out of my own funds and made them a guest of honor.

Oh, please. Nearly every show has them, and they aren't just annoying teenagers.
However, they only bother me at the shows (and when they show up here).
I work with theater kids, and maybe because we don't live that close to the city, so I don't have that problem day to day. They just get obsessed with whatever we're working on.

Ugh that is one of the most annoying things I face in shows that I am in with fellow teenagers. Especially the girls
Some shows I think deserve all of their annoying followings like Les Mis really does deserve it, especially the 25th Anniversary revival which in my opinion has some of the best singing I've ever heard. ie: Earl Carpenter w/ Stars. Also shows like Ave Q and Evita have very specific followings that I think are generally founded upon very good opinions that make sense.
I think it's alright for there to be fandom especially with the more popular musicals, BUT (and it's a big but) it has to have a good reason. You can just say "OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH" and then not tell me why. The most commonly over-liked shows (without any type of specific reason) that I encounter are Wicked, Les Mis, and Rent. Drives me nuts.

broadway guy, I think you meant to say *storms off the Broadway board and moves over to the West End*
Ruining another thread by making it about you. Thanks, BG.
I do think I'm going to have to offer BG some advice on medicating!
I recommended it to Lovebwy and it WORKED!
I have my charms (and a pill assortment!)

I agree that the Les Mis movie kids are annoying as of late. Someone in this production I was in claimed she loooooved Aaron Tveit but couldn't name one musical he was in on Broadway. -_-
RENTheads were REALLY annoying for a long time, but now that the show is gone it seems to have kinda fizzled out. I'll never forget the outcry when they announced the show's closing.....*rolls eyes*

When it comes to this board, I would say the most insufferable show followings have been:
Grey Gardens
Follies
Sunday in the Park with George
Title of Show
Annoying fan bases off of this board:
Wicked
Rent (and I'm one of them)
Spring Awakening
