How has no one mentioned Clay Aiken?
When he was in Spamalot (as well as the closet) someone here posted a fairly mild appraisal of his performance.
The fans (what are they again? Claymates?) caught the smell like bloodhounds and the floodgates opened. The first night I thought they were going to shut BWW down from the influx of traffic.
Oh man, the sheer psychosis of his fans is unmatched.
ETA: I only mention that he was in the closet because so much of what was posted concerned that aspect of his life. It was....something.

"Not even close."
Or maybe too close for comfort?

Glee and Madonna
If Madonna ever makes a guest appearance on Glee, there will be a(nother) big bang.
"I think it's alright for there to be fandom especially with the more popular musicals, BUT (and it's a big but) it has to have a good reason."
This is funny!
Haha, Tazber, I remember those Claymates. there was a ringleader, I forgot her name. She would appear out of the blue whenever Clay's name was mentioned. Boy those were the days. Fun times!
Rent
I was unbearable enough during my Spring Awakening days.
Recently, though, I'm irritated by people who get angry that I acknowledge that her voice is in bad shape and still call myself a Ripley fan.
Jane, you're thinking of cartwheel. Don't ask me why I remember that.
Ah yes, cartwheel. Thanks Glinda!
I wonder if she can detect her name being mentioned right now?

Margo, why do you end every post "Margo!"? It just makes me want to respond "Polo!"
We know it's you posting already from that handy dandy little box to the left that has your screen name.
Because she's just as irritating as BG.
who is Aaron Tivelt
As a Phantom Phan of the highest order (and I can't claim youth as an excuse, being close to 60), I think many Phans go beyond the pale. One young couple, who had met at a performance, had a Phantom themed wedding, and then proceeded to pass out flyers at National Tour venues trying to whip up opposition to "Love Never Dies." At the Broadway 25th anniversary, I saw several young women with huge Phantom logo tattoos. I think Phantom Phans can overdo just as much as Trekkers, of whom I'm also one. Paraphrasing the "Saturday Night Live" words of William Shatner, we all need to get a life.
Haha. Why do people care that people are passionate and excited about theatre. There are a lot of things I don't get why people have so much respect for but I'm never annoyed by them. It actually just makes me smile.

Those horribly obnoxious Les Mis fangirls who refuse to acknowledge that it has a history beyond the movie. Also, Stephanie J. Block's fans are rabid.
Oh and about the Aaron Tveit fans: there was some incident on Tumblr about a month ago. It was actually pretty big among the "broadway" blogs- aka the ones that only reblog gifsets of Phantom and Les Mi... Anyway, these girls were writing these really creepy sexual stories ("fantasies" they were called, I believe- not kidding) featuring the person who requested one, and Aaron Tveit. And iI guess someone was publishing Aaron Tveit's personal information? Get a grip, people.
The Les Miz movie and Wicked fangirls are pretty bad. But I've never encountered anyone as bad as adult Spring Awakening fans. Several years ago, I used to post pretty frequently on an opera message board, and in 2007, when Spring Awakening was nominated, there was a thread about the Tony Awards. At the time, I didn't agree with Spring Awakening winning Best Musical, and made the comment that I didn't understand why everyone was calling SA 'the new Rent' and gave my reasons for why I did not like the show. And that brought out the cat claws, lemme tell you. People called me brain-damaged, that I didn't understand the AIDS epidemic of the 80s (still not sure how that came up), that I was young and stupid, not a 'real music lover/Broadway fan,' that SA was a 'timeless classic like Carousel,' and so on. I stopped posting for quite a while after that, because they were so nasty.

Wait till the Carrie Underwood Sound of Music airs. If it should happen to bring any of the Carrie uberfans to this board . . . well, let's just say, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
SA a "timeless classic like CAROUSEL"?
Only in Hell, baby.

Perhaps I just don't spend enough time interacting with theater lovers, but there isn't really any specific fanbase that annoys me.
The ONE thing that does annoy me (or, at least, confuse and moderately irritate me) is people (adults, not teenagers) who talk about how much they LOVE musicals but who really only know a tiny handful of shows (the usual suspects: "Phantom," "Les Mis," "Wicked," etc.) Ask them about anything older than 40 years (other than a few Rodgers & Hammerstein shows and whatever their high school put on), and you're likely to get blank stares. The same thing happens if you ask about any modern composers who aren't named Andrew Lloyd Webber or Stephen Schwartz and "those French guys who did Les Mis."
I'm sure it's weird and snobbish of me to care. And of course, I don't know nearly as much about musicals as a lot of people here, so perhaps I'm throwing rocks from a glass house. It just seems weird to say you "love" a medium when you only know of a few things done within the last few decades.
Other than that, I've kind of got to agree with NYC4Life. I don't begrudge people their passionate feelings - if someone has memorized every lyric of "Wicked" and dresses up as their favorite character every chance they get and loves to tell everyone about how "Wicked is like the best musical OF ALL TIME," well... Good for them.
(Though I'd probably feel differently if I had encountered some of the vitriol other people have talked about.)
