I can't believe no one has tried to musicalize Tootsie yet. I saw it again on TV the other night, and it just cries out for it.

Folkyboy: I was actually just thinking that a musical of the old play 'The Desk Set' might work. It's a fun 'office' comedy. Also, how about a musical of "Adam's Rib". I've been watching a lot of old Hepburn/Tracy films lately.
I killed the boss, you don't think they're gonna fire me over a thing like that!!!!

that's a fun idea! :)
and i'm all about musicalizing Tootsie. i always found the music in that film PERFECT for a stage.

How about a revival of Applause starring Cyndi Lauper.

My own personal suggestions...
Revivals:
Fascinating Rhythm
DuBarry Was a Lady
Lady in the Dark
Nymph Errant
Too Many Girls
Bye Bye Birdie
Chess
Carrie
Goldilocks
The Golden Apple
New:
Heart and Souls (when will someone write this already, Marc???)
9 to 5
Harriet Tubman/Rosa Parks (possibly two one-acts as one show)
Too Many Crooks (the original version of Ruthless People)
Story of Paul Revere
Stonewall
The Witch of Blackbird Pond
Like Water for Chocolate (LaChiusa perhaps?)
Belle Epoque

I don't think it would technically be a revival, but Bare: A Pop Opera needs to come back.

Disney's Newsies would be a great Broadway Musical.
I'd like to see The Joy Luck Club as a play with music.
and a revival of Starlight Express because it's the craziest concept for a broadway show ever.

Going to a musical late in its run is like going to a prostitute late in her shift.

Speaking as a diehard who fan I have been a huge fan of the actuall tommy album before it was a show. I must say it should have stayed that way and never have become a show. So, I don't agree wit that revival. And, I cannot tell you the number of times they tried to revive Hair but it failed. I want to say that they tried something like nine times thus far but nothing.
