Last I heard they were looking for a distributor. Does anyone know if they found one yet? I heard a clip of Anna Kendrick singing "I Can Do Better Than That" and she sounded amazing! I am so excited for this and the anticipation is killing me.
I heard a rumor it's being released in the Fall but I don't know if the source was reliable.

I think the last official word in this was that they were doing screenings for potential distributors earlier this year. If a major studio picks it up, I can see it being release through a boutique label such as fox searchlight, focus features, sony picture classics, etc... Or it could wind up at Magnolia or IFC meaning limited theatrical release with a concurrent VOD release. I'm really looking forward to this so it's a bit frustrated not to have heard anything in so long, especially when these leaked clips sound so great, sound quality notwithstanding.
Those screenings were done six months ago. The reviews weren't that great. Someone said it had no business being a movie, it just doesn't work. I'm curious about the finished product, but they shot this a year ago, and they still have no distributor willing to do it? Yikes.
The lack of distributor worries me as well. The screenings were clearly intended for buyers, and it's also puzzling the film wasn't given a festival premiere (Tribeca would have been perfect). However, if it didn't turn out well a festival would only spread bad word of mouth, so maybe that's why they resorted to buyers screenings instead.
My guess is they're holding out for a theatrical release so it doesn't go straight to VOD. Given Anna Kendrick's popularity with PITCH PERFECT, they shouldn't have any trouble getting a VOD deal but they probably want to aim higher. Keep in mind indie film sales aren't what they used to be, even for films that do perform well at festivals.
