I don't see how it can be so bad. I have the cast album and love it. Sierra Boggess is incredible and I love the new songs. I'm not sure I'm feeling the pictures that I've seen of the costumes and scenery. But it's a beautiful story and my favorite Disney film, so I just don't see how it could be so bad.
Anyway, I'm going next Saturday and I'm really excited. Anyone on here love it? I'd like to hear some positive reviews lol.

I was wondering this too. I personally loved the show. Well, minus the first 30 minutes or so. They should just cut the entire show until Sherie comes in--and then start it there.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire show (after 30 minutes into it), but my friend sitting next to me fell asleep. She hated it...

I saw the show last month and I LOVE IT.
The review always are bad, remember Beauty and the beast.
But if you love DIsney and this film, you will adore the show.
Sierra is fantastic, and Sherie, and Tituss, and Sean......all cats.

Posted: 3/11/08 at 11:43pmI personally didn't enjoy the show. Maybe it was the new songs or just the fact that it was Disney. But if you enjoy the album and you enjoy Disney shows, I say go for it.

Posted: 3/12/08 at 12:14amI saw it here in Denver. While not the greatest show, it is a very entertaining evening at the theatre. Sierra Boggess is wonderful as Ariel and has a killer voice. I had no major problem with the costumes or sets. Being a theatre lover and having been active with theatre here in Denver, of course I picked out some flaws. But they weren't enough to stop me from enjoying the show. Sherie Renee Scott was a lot of fun to watch and Titus Burgess was also great fun to watch.

Denver costumes are worst than Broadway.
Broadway show is better, guy, Denver was a "little premier"

I have seen the costumes on Broadway. Not in person but I was sent the program from New York. Not much of a change. And Denver was not a little "premiere". I think they call it an out of town tryout? Disney chose Denver because of our facilities. We have a very good relationship with them. Did you see it here in Denver?
And it is "worse" not "worst". Good spelling and english are a good thing.

Posted: 3/12/08 at 12:51amIn emmas defense, many people have said on this board that the costumes vastly improved from Denver to Broadway. Anyway, the show is really bad and not worth seeing. I was expecting it to be bad going in because of everything everyone has said about it and the reviews. But it was even worse then I thought it was going to be. Sherie Rene Scott barely moved and had very little stage time, so I don't understand why many people are saying how amazing she is as Ursula.

SRS is amazing even though she does not move around a lot. That shouldn't really matter anyway. The costumes did not change much from Denver, although there are small differences. If you enjoy the music and the movie I think you'd enjoy this musical.

Posted: 3/12/08 at 1:26amWell I am wondering if the people who are saying the costumes changed a lot from Denver to Broadway saw it in both places? As I said, I did not see the show on Broadway, yet, but I do have the program which shows practically all of the costumes so I can make a comparison based on what I saw in Denver. And I don't see much of a change. And Disney themselves said they were not going to make many changes from Denver to Broadway.

I wrote a review of the show back when I saw it in December. I have to say it was one of my favorite films growing up and I walked in with very high expectations of the show and they were all met. No complaints. Hope you enjoy it!

Love the music.
Throughly enjoyed the show.
It had it's flaws, but overall it was a really enjoyable show.
I love Sierra Boggess, Sherie Rene and Titus Burgess.
And I loved the new music: "If Only" and "She's In Love" were wonderful and the old standards were great

In terms of costumes, I know that site has some videos of the Denver peformances and the costumes look really identical to the Broadway ones. I think some changes were made to Ariel's dresses, especially her wedding dress, and if I'm not mistaken Ariel's tail was changed to wire for more fluid movements and more proportional to her, especially the fin. The costumes arent terrible though, and certainly not distracting from the show, not even Flounder's. The costumes, at least for this show, dont make or break the show in my opinion.
Also, I'd recommend not basing your decision to see the show on those videos. If you have seen the Broadway show changes are very noticeable from the Denver tryouts and the videos dont capture the show well, especially the brightness and beauty of the lighting. It's night and day in my opinion.

Posted: 3/12/08 at 2:44amI think a lot of it hinges on whether or not you like the new songs. I personally thought they were mostly dreadful, but if you enjoy them then you'd probably enjoy the show.

I read that emmadny has many positive reviews.
Anyhow, I love the movie and loathe the stage show. It has some talented performers, no doubt, but I'd much rather watch the DVD than spend a hundred bucks on a ticket and have to sit through "That World Above", "Positoovity", and "Beyond My Wildest Dreams". Plus the ending of the animated film is so much cooler. And Flounder actually looks like a fish.

Posted: 3/12/08 at 6:14amI really like the cast recording, but having seen the show... It's not that good. The transformations are LAME, and some of the sets are things I wouldn't even think you'd see in one of the Disney theme park shows (and those things are not cheaply done) Sure it has its good points, but overall, I'm not planning to go back. I'll just stick to the cast recording and picture it in my mind as I wish it had been.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

Posted: 3/12/08 at 10:44amI just bought tickets online so I will be seeing it April 12th. It should be fun. We did not get great seats (rear mezz) but It is a birthday present for my partner. Does anyone know if the seating is pretty good anywhere?

Posted: 3/12/08 at 10:55amSo much fun! It was entertaining, enjoyable and beautiful costumes. Would one expect less from Disney? The songs were delightful both the ones from original movie and the newly created for Broadway tunes. Sheri Renae Scott (Ursula, the Sea Witch)was phenomenal! The Show had great staging and choreography including the cast wearing wheelies for shows to simulate gliding (“swimming”). This will be on Broadway for many years to come and a National Tour will certainly make a big SPLASH!!

I loved ONE STEP CLOSER........sooooooo sweet.
And Sierra is a great actress and she seems like Ariel, perfect.
The show isn't better than BatB or Lion King, but it's enjoyable.

Did anyone else notice the "Beauty and the Beast" transformation chords during "the Storm" and when she gets her legs at the end of the show?
And, did anyone notice how shockingly similar "Under the Sea" and "Be Our Guest" now sound?

Both shows are makes by Menken, it's normal they seems a lot.

Menken and Ashman don't usually borrow from themselves.
And, for the record, the film score does not include the same music as what is appearing on Broadway as "The Storm." I sat there and literally thought "Did I put 'Beauty' in and forget?"
