Anyone else conflicted for the Tonys tomorrow night?

The Tonys are probably my favorite show of the year - but they're on against another event I literally wait all year for - episode nine of Game of Thrones. We may switch over to GoT at 9 and then play catch up...

Since the Tonys are live, wouldn't it make sense to just record GoT and watch it immediately after?

If you have HBO, then I am assuming you have HBOGo. GOT would be available to watch later in that case. There are many ways to access HBOGo on your TV (even if it means hooking up your laptop to your TV).

The Tonys have always had huge events opposite it, from NBA Finals to Sex and the City to the Sopranos finale to NHL Playoffs...

Obviously I know about HBOGo and DVR and all that. The point is which to watch live. Any other episode of GoT and it would be a no-brainer, but episode nine is usually the biggest episode of the season.

We'll probably end up sticking with the Tonys anyway.

I mean, is it that painful to wait a couple of hours to watch it?

Game of Thrones is my favorite show, so I get you. But in Mexico, ep. 9 is airing at 8 P.M. and the Tonys at 9 P.M. so I don't have as much a trouble, but I'd recommend watching the Tonys (I mean, if you're here you are as much a theater fan as all of us and would like to see the Tony Awards live, I'm sure) and then GoT On HBOGo (or DVR) and avoid any spoilers, specially if you haven't read the books.

I'm working until 10 tomorrow night, so while I'm upset I don't get to watch them "live" (on the west coast, it's never actually live), I will be watching it the second I get home.

I totally get it.

Yeah, the Tonys are aired live, but Game of Thrones episode 9 is the must-see-first-run event of the year.

I'm DVRing both. I think I'm going to watch Tonys hour 1, watch Game of Thrones, then go back and start at hour 2. With commercials, I'll probably catch up with the Tonys before the end.

Even so, I'd rather be spoiled on the Best Revival of a Play than the Season 5 equivalent of Ned Stark, the Battle of Blackwater, the Red Wedding, or Oberyn Martell.

How can you watch Game live when it is airing on film? Here is a question for you: What will you do when Games goes off the air. My wife is a fan but if she misses it, she watches it on demand a few days later. Somehow, she survives. I asked her about this thread and she said "What is the big deal"? If you cannot wait until tomorrow, dvr it and watch it after the Tonys.

Watching the Tonys (which are live) later is like watching a sporting event after it is over. The thrill is gone. We are watching it knowing full well our choices probably won't win but it is the Tonys.

Do what you want.

Tonight is my high school graduation. Well it actually starts in the early evening but runs pretty long so I will most likely miss a good portion of the beginning. Major sad faaaaaace.

Your's is a more valid reason than watching a make believe TV show. Oops I broke the spell saying it is make believe.

Good luck at the graduation.

Tonight, in the DC area, the Cappies Awards are being celebrated at the Kennedy Center. These are the local high school equivalent of the Tony Awards.....and they happen at the exact same time as the Tony Awards. It's a HUGE deal for the high school kids and the more than 50 schools that participate. I've never fully understood why they insist on having it on the same night every year! So the DVR will be recording and we'll fast forward thru all the commercials. However, I hate having to stay off social media so there won't be any spoilers!

I think staying off social media is the only way not to be spoiled. I've read the GoT books so know what's coming, but I don't know exactly when given that this season has diverged wildly from the books. Mr. Roxy, I know you can't understand the appeal of a fantasy show, let alone why it is THE show to watch tonight. orangeskittles, we might end up doing the same thing. That way we won't get spoiled on the awards we care about.

The truth is I know far more people who watch GoT who could potentialy spoil it than those who watch the Tonys. I'll just have to put my computer away for an hour and a half.

Damn and all along I thought dragons were real. Thanks for ruining it.

I'm going to be watching the 1st hour of the Tonys and then skipping to GoT then returning. I figure I can skip the awards and speeches I don't care much about and commercials and just watch the performances and catch up rather quickly.

I don't think it's much of a dilemma, but I know my facebook feed is going to be a mix of tonys/got updates and I am the type of person who likes to be up-to-date with my info along with everyone else.

My Tony night conflict: Black Keys or Lana Del Ray at Governors Ball. #FirstWorldProblems.

As has already been said: DVR Tony Awards, stay off the interweb, and watch the Tonys after GOT. Also a good way to skip the commercials.
