And I am so aware thatthis is an unpopular opinion, but I will never see what those critics (or other fans) see in Lea Salonga. She doesKristin Davis on Sex and the City level acting at best, in my opinion. Her performancein Once On This Island not only shouldn't have happened (why was she in that show?), but it was a farce. Just dead behind the eyes and a pretty voice. I went to see Old Friends on the day of her absence and had a fantastic time.
"

As very clearly mentioned in my post, the reason I pulled those quotes was to show that clearly a number of people experienced a surprisingly strong out-of-her-wheelhouse turn by Salonga in Old Friends.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinions, yes, which is exactly my point. No need to gaslight someone else into thinking they’re crazy for liking something you didn’t.

you’re perfectly entitled to not like Lea, just as I am entitled to not like Audra’s rose.

and the world goes round.

a little tolerance for a differing opinion on here could go a long way. Something tells me none of you would be this flippantly rude and dismissive of a differing opinion if you weren’t hiding behind your laptops.

FWIW, I thought Lea’s “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” was electrifying. Honestly? Even out of context, in the middle of a revue, I enjoyed it more than Audra’s rendition.."

It was Rose by ways of Disney princess.

Bell-clear vocals, but no desperation or soul.
"

Could not disagree more. The night I saw it, she was on FIRE channeling Merman and not even anywhere near the realm of “Disney princess.”
"

Merman? PLEASE MARY.

She couldn't channel Merman if her bland voice depended on it.
"

“PLEASE MARY.” yourself.

some of yall are such assh*les for absolutely no reason.

It’s not like wicked rocksis alone in their appreciation for Lea’s surprisingly brassy rendition of the song. Receipts below, courtesy of a Google search.

Get over yourself.

“Ms. Salonga also throws herself into the defiant anthem “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” from “Gypsy,” with galvanizing fervor.”- Wall Street Journal

“a barn-burner of a take on “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” fromGypsy.”-Entertainment Weekly

“And if you think that Salonga’s “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” would be redundant in a season that also features Audra McDonald singing it three blocks away in “Gypsy,”you’d be wrong. Bringing her own version of frustrated ambition to it, Salonga makes it new.”- New York Times

“a steely Momma Rose doing “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”- NY Magazine

“I wouldn’t immediately peg her for a conniving Mrs. Lovett or pit bull Madam Rose. “The Worst Pies in London” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” are big swings for this actress, but she bats both out of the Friedman. She brassily wails “Everything’sComing Up Roses”.”- NY Post

“But even more remarkable is Salonga’s Momma Rose with “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” (from “Gypsy” ), displaying a belt and a fierceness that make the number a showstopper.”- Variety

TLDR
"

You mean DAWMODR? “doesn’t align with my opinion didn’t read”?

Grow up, troll.

Flippantly rude? Gaslighting? I am begging you to show me where either of those things happened from me, babe. Words mean things!

Girl. It was part of a larger point I was making that you pulled from a longer message I posted, in response to yours.

The explicit gaslighting mention was in response to benjaminnicholas. It’s truly not that deep.

Montego looks young on stage,  she sang what was specifically created for Audra to give that raw emotion. . However in Some People she could have easily belted the higher notes instead opted for head voice, which could be because she is building up her character emotionally.  The rest of the show she delivers as you would expect for a vacation cover.    She to me is a great belter but for me doesnt sit righ in classical musicals even as the Witch in Into the Woods felt off. She fares much better in contemporary musicals,  she probably would even nail Disneys Elsa, Or Belle, this role for me she doesnt have the vocal placement for.
