There is no such "insider" information. You could be the President of Local One or Thomas Schumacher and still not know. They don't know. It's a STRIKE. There is no timeline.
What both sides need to do is sit down and TALK, without their childish name-calling or tricky words to win over the public. Public support can only help so much.

Posted: 11/13/07 at 2:49pmI usually do but since you guys are so NEGATIVE in these times, I get very pessimistic and whiny. It's all your fault I'm like this. Please be positive, everyone!

Posted: 11/13/07 at 2:57pmI don't know if it's about being positive or negative, as much as being realistic. I doubt there's a single person on this board who wouldn't want to see this strike end today if possible, but if neither side is even talking about talking and they haven't even scheduled their next meeting to try to get negotiations under way again -- and there's no way the strike can end until they do -- then clearly this thing won't/can't be over any time in the next few days, if not weeks.

"It's all your fault I'm like this."
wow. what a sad, statement, yet very appropriate from someone from the generation of "me".
I think Josh is a little off. Certain things don't connect up there in the old cranium. Just look at his avatar. He has sheep eyes.
and I am POSITIVE about that.

That's not helping me.
I'll try to be calm about it even it lasts 10 weeks.

It may last into the new year.
Yet, I am trying to visualize that it ends at Thanksgiving or soon after. That would by positive thoughts! Maybe we can all take up law of attraction now. I do! Of course, no one has too -- yet, at this point, all we can do is visualize everyone happy and going back to work and Broadway being back in business, right?!

Well that is my hope. That magically, the League realizes it wants to keep making money so they will get some big wig to stand up and say, alright everyone, here's my table, lets just sit down and settle this. We stay here, day and night until we do.
Heh,heh, I want Randi Rhodes too at the head of the table in her best New York Accent to just stand there before them and say, it's time to get serious now kids and write a serious contract, so we can all go out afterwards and have a beer or whatever when this is all finished! The longer St Martin holds out the more she is paid whether she wins anything more or not. Claffey gets paid either way. Now he is earning it but he has to word things a little bit better. It's difficult because the work is complicated and boring to explain to the average person out there.
These people have to try and remember they need each other. Put yourself in their shoes and show a little appreciation for what others can do for you. This can be settled fairly. I too keep imagining that it will be soon but unfortunately, after seeing the fights over previous Union Contracts, the money the League has amassed, it is very difficult to not see this as a planned move to fight as much as they can to gut the Local for as much as they can get.
Josh, sometimes the cup is half full, neither running over or empty and dry. We are affected by this but this too is how we help structure our Country. We have to make sure that those who work hard have some kind of reward to look forward to.
I am just so relieved all I have to do is wait. We aren't out there holding signs. If I lived closer, I would do what I could because I have studied my History and appreciate what Unions do.
You can take this time and read about Unions, write letters of support to those whose work you honor and respect. Keep encouraging those who want you too to benefit from their hard work to give you a great Broadway Show.

Heard a little "insider info" today . . .from a friend on the Broadway circuit. The word is business potentially could be back up and running by Monday.
The negotiation/settlement will happen Friday.
It's something to hope is true, at the very least!

Posted: 11/14/07 at 12:49pmNot to pop anyone's bubble, but if there were going to be a quick round of negotiations, it would have happened already. Ain't going to happen on Friday.

Posted: 11/14/07 at 1:07pmAt the moment, neither side will even discuss the mayor's offer to start negotiations. There are many, many points of contention in this contract, and it seems very unlikely that they'd be settled all in one day.

Well, it may not be "just talk" -- it may be an action by the city? Anywho, ye of little faith. A lot can happen in a day; including a compromise to go "back to work" and set-up a time to iron out all the fine details; yet, solve the BIG ISSUES in one day.
Perhaps seven (7) days was enough to make a point . . . and Local 1 and/or someone will not hold out longer out of respect for their sister unions. Actors are not being paid now, and perhaps Local 1 will be kind and compromise, end the strike, so they [the actors, musicians] can go back to work with a happy heart.
I know, and believe, that Local 1 is many good-hearted, intelligent, skilled human beings -- and they are making their point and will be open very, very soon to agree [Day 7 -- One week this Friday], to discuss and compromise.
My opinion, my belief . . . my hope. Have some faith, my friends!
