her dancing was fine, but the rest was less than great. Part of me thought after I saw the shaw in Minneapolis, "Is this gonna make it?" And while it did, perhaps they should have just let the show go, instead of Christina fighting back to open on Broadway.
I don't understand how anyone who saw the Charity ensemble or the Cagelles dance could say that Applegates dancing was fine.
LOL Lucille!

idk, I mean I am not gonna say it was terrible though. I that that dancing is still a challege. And to some effect they pulled it off. I still wish they would have stuck with the original choreography, and second, I think the whole show is kinda put together in a bad way. It just isn't a tight/neat show.

No, thank you Lucille. :)
Hawkeyemania you left out two words and they are, artistic imagination.
As SWEET CHARITY, Applegate isn't all that great. She's just OK. But ya know - she doesn't bother me, either. I can't wring my hands and tsk-tsk about the 'declining standards' 'n all.
So far, she's done a much better job at selling tickets than I ever thought she would.
When does she leave "Charity"? I want to see her in August...
It's just that she seems out of her element when she is singing and dancing. They should replace her with Lithgow. He sells tickets too.
Well what was so wrong with her dancing?????? It looked as though she did what she was supposed to do, and did it just about as good as it could have been done......

She sorta does. But she has a cheerleader enthusiasm that people seem to like. And I don't have a problem with that.
By all means, cast someone who can't handle the role just because they might be able to sell tickets. This is what is wrong with B'way. I realise producers have to sell tickets, but Charity should have stayed in Boston.

her dancing seemed good and I'm sure she can act the part really well(I have yet to see the show) but her voice def. lacked power. but then again she is primarily an actress..

And it's not like Christina is even a huge draw. The show is on TKTS all the time and not playing to great capacities.
Considering its less-than-enthusiastic reviews, SWEET CHARITY is actually doing surprisingly well. It was at over 80% last week, I believe. It's been doing considerably better than LA CAGE. We'll see if the Tony gives the latter a bump - it needs it.
whoa there, I wouldn't go that far
I think she's a fine dancer - it's her choreography that's lacking. While CHARITY obviously isn't a breathtaking production, I thought Applegate did fine. I was surprised at how well she handled the performance. Her singing isn't what makes her Charity irresistable - it's her acting and her entire overall performance. You can't judge whether or not you should see a show by a 3 minute clip. If that were the case, and I hope it's not, millions of people would have crossed "Caroline, or Change" off of their lists last year and missed one of the best performances ever given on stage. Stop being so immature, people. We all know Christina isn't a broadway performer. She knows that too - she didn't forget. Her performance in the actual show is 100x better than the little clip you saw last night.
i saw christina and thought she was exactly as bad as she was on the TONYS...but she does try really hard...so people end up feeling sorry for her. "sweet charity" is ok but the star of the show is the amazing story of it. im glad "la cage" won for best revival.
Too bad La Cage will be closing any day now.
The ensemble dancers make the choreography look good, Applegate does not. I saw the show before she hurt herself. She looks exactly the same, awkward.
Do you think Charity will still be around in August? it's not doing all that well.
