Thank God Cy Coleman is dead. If he weren't, Christina Applegate would have just killed him. That medely on the Tonys was awful.

O my goodness. What a horribly insensitive thing to say (regarding Cy Coleman).

I agree - but its not her fault - the conductor should have followed her better and it would have been fine. When its 3 or fewer people the conductor needs to follow and 4 or more the cast needs to follow - and I dont know who conduts, the guy from the show or a special Tony conductor, but if its the guy from the show he sucked again.

You learn to play the straight man, the lines become routine - never really saying what you mean - but i know the scene will change :)

ljay, You want something positive. That abomination was mercifully short. That's the only positive thing I can say about that 'performance' from Charity.

P.S. You seem to have a very limited vocabulary.

Poor thing. She sounded so weak and out of breath. Not a good performance. But I've already had two people who don't go to the theatre ofen call me to tell me how wonderful they thought her performance was. So what the hell do I know?

Yes the performance was bad, but the poor girl danced her heart out! SHE GETS THE TONY FOR HEART AND SPIRIT!

p.s. was I only only person laughing for a half hour when she came out and fell off stage! CLASSIC!

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

I don't recall being knocked-out by the voice of Shirley MacLaine in the film; and Applegate's dancing was good, IMO.

The Tony performance made me cross off "Charity" from my must-see list. It didn't make the grade.

Ok, here we go. I've been a Christina fan for years. She failed to impress me this evening. Her singing was very weak, and I kept hoping she would show off some fancy footwork, but there was just a lot of marching. Not impressed. Also, HORRIBLE final phrase.

However, I did LAUGH OUT LOUD when she appeared onstage to present. I do think that the girl who fell was NOT Christina...she just came out of the pit.

In Applegates defense:

In one of the interviews she said she was VERY FRIGHTENED to perform, even thought she does it 8 times a week. She made it known she was extremely nervous to peform.

lets not forget, she is still dancing on a broken foot.

The tempos were sped up, and the performers had trouble hearing the orchrestra.

She was in tune with her singing, and dancing was fine.

Looking amazing in a dress does not make for a Tony Award winning performance.

I just can't understand why people cant be supportive of performers in the Theater - if they are amazing, or mediocre. We should be happy we have Theater veterans and newcommers lighting up Broadway. Also Hollywood stars who love Theater, and showing their love for it by performing 8x a week on Broadway.

Instead some people have to be critical little b*tches. Judge a performance by what you see in THE THEATER, not by the Tony performance.
