Are they trying to kill Broadway?

My assumption is that they are reaching out for the younger theater audience....aka..."the future of Broadway".
EDIT!!! I meant..the future AUDIENCES of Broadway.

Let's be thankful that it is a New Musical. Not a jukebox musical. I think it sounds fun.

If this doesn't sound like a Disney line, I don't know what does. Who wants to pay $100 a ticket for this?

I can't really decide what their target audience is. I have a feeling it will be small and selective kind of like Little Women.

Please, you're talking Broadway.
In the last 10 years there has been very little that is creative, groundbreaking, or thought-provoking. Broadway has become home mostly to happy, mega spectacles, musical comedies where everyone already knows the plot ahead of time, revivals, and occasionally a play or two that attracts 50% full houses.
Whats to kill?

I don't know about every little girl, but there's one waiting to emerge from me.

exactly my point Raithnait!! The "younger theater audience that will become obsessed with the actress in the role" type.

You can watch video clips of the show, and listen to samples of the score.. The links are around here.
It looks like - the school girls get the pop/dance songs. Brent Barrett and the other adults get the traditional musical theatre songs, and Storm Newton playing the hunk - will get the R&B flavored songs.
It feels like they are trying to cram too many different styles of music into one show.
People are calling it the next HAIRSPRAY.
And it looks like Brent Barrett and Donna English might be the only reasons to see this show.
Anyway - I think this will be more promising than BROOKLYN, and GOOD VIBRATIONS.

I want to see it b/c it's an original musical and I want to see Brent Barrett but I don't like that it sounds so pop. I feel bad jokes and over-acting coming just from that 17 minute video, I hope it's less corny on Broadway.

Geesh!...give it a chance before condemning it. However to me right now it does sound like a cross between "Henry, Sweet Henry"(adolescent vying for the affection of her father) and the British musical "Moby Dick (school children put on a musical within a musical). I'm seeing the final performance on the 28th and will probably write a review here. Until then I'm hoping for the best. It officially opens tonight in Seattle so you should be able to read a review tomorrow or Friday in the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligence.

Definately not something I'd like to see. Maybe, little girls would like it. I would not say that would "kill" broadway. Broadway, in my opinion, should target different audiences. Everyone has different interests in musicals. But it definatley is NOT something I'd spend my money on.
There is no future. There is no past. I live this moment as my last. There's only us. There's only this. Forget regret. For life is yours to miss. No other path. No other way. NO DAY BUT TODAY!

"Please, you're talking Broadway....What's to kill?" - South Fl Marc.
Broadway's having a good season. Nothing original? Pillowman, Doubt, Spelling Bee, LITP. I'm sure I wouldn't see this show either, but why would it spell the demise of "The Fabulous Invalid"?
Why do some people think only the shows they like should be on Broadway?

Exactly. Something for everyone - all tastes catered to. Why not?

Argh. I must admit that the show sounds like a concept some po-dunk children's theater would produce.

The music in those clips is terrible. It's not even good enough to be played on radio Disney.
