Fantastic Carnegie performance last night! Audra's rendition of "Rainbow High" almost (and just barely...) topped Patti! She joked about never ever having the opportunity to perform this part (except when she was 16 in Fresno), but am I the only one who thinks she would be a remarkable Evita??
The set list was pretty consistent with what was posted above, but no Sondheim (sub for Schwartz's Baker's Wife...downgrade in my book) and no Baltimore or Craig's List Lieder (no big loss). We did get "Mr. Snow" and "Vanilla Ice Cream": both stunning! Absolutely loved her "Maybe This time" and "Sing Happy" along with a lot of new material (can anyone recall the name of that hysterical Facebook song?)!
Every time I see her, I think she couldn't be as good as the time before. So happy that she constantly proves me wrong! I don't suppose anyone has *cough cough* a bootleg of any of her Carnegie performances or can PM me in the right direction? I so want a live recording of this amazing performer. As much as I enjoy many of her albums, she's just so much more impressive live (a rare feat for an artist).
Can't wait to see her at WTF in August! Any chance Josie can be written in a song or two?
As Play Esq. says, great night last night, the FaceBook song was delightful and her Maybe this Time and Rainbow High were both extraordinary.
songs included:
Sing Happy Mr. Snow The Tale of Bear and Otter Maybe This Time Vanilla Ice Cream Go Back Home Let's Not Talk About Love Rainbow High The Writing on the Wall My Buddy Proud Lady (reworked for her by Schwartz) Climb Every Mountain No One Else (gorgeous song from Natsha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812) Over the Rainbow
My 93 year old mother has mid-stage dementia and lives in a nearby assisted living residence.
I'm planning my trip into Manhattan to see Audra, and the phone rings. It's the assisted living place. My mother fell at lunchtime and bled quite a bit. They were sending her by ambulance to a local emergency room.
So I go there and stay with her while tests are taken and when they say she can leave I drive her back and stay with her a while and I finally get home at 7:30. Too late for the ninety minute trip to Carnegie from Eastern Nassau County.

OlBlueEyes: so sorry to hear that I hope your grandmother is doing better. Don't worry, Audra will be back soon enough! I feel like she's been in New York on practically a yearly basis...if not more!
Audra was supposed to be singing at The Kennedy Center gala Sunday night (I bought tickets because of that), and when I went to their website today, she was mysteriously missing from that particular event.
She'll also be appearing at Wolftrap in June.
