Great run, great play, so glad I saw it.

Such a great run, although I was hoping it would last through the summer/Rashad's contract.
WHAT
NO
OPRAH!!!!
I agree, Sondheim_Geek. It just seems like Rashad wasn't bringing in as many people as they hoped it should, even with Variety and a few other papers re-reviewing the piece and giving the show glowing reviews for a fourth time. I'm surprised Isherwood didn't go review it again or that the Times didn't send another one of their other critics, maybe that would have helped. This is one show that I admire for committing to Steppenwolf and remaining faithful to them, but at the same time, part of me wishes they would have gotten a few bigger names (a bunch of actors who are a draw could have been great in the parts) to make more money.
Really, there's few reasons to lament the show's closing, it had a very nice healthy run and it seems to be closing on a high in terms of quality.

didn't Rashad JUST start? how long will her run have been?
surprising they didn't think they could make it through the summer rush...
Rashad started on May 26. At least she will have had a nice month in the show.
Damn it, no! Okay, well, there's no way I'm gonna let myself miss Amy Morton, so I guess I'll be paying the Westons another visit sometime this week.
If you people didn't see this one coming from a mile away you need to get your vision checked.
I really, REALLY wish we could have seen Lily Tomlin do this. I'll do everything I can to see Rashad in this before it closes.

Lily Tomlin? I like that idea. I could see her being cast in the film!
I knew this one was a long time coming, but it's still bad news. Oh, well. Just got my tickets for the closing.

I'm definitely sad that this one is closing. I'm really happy that I got to see Deanna and Estelle's take on Violet, and will try to catch the closing performance to see Phylica.

i dont think anyone expected it to run through next season, but yeah, once it made it through the winter months (in the throws of a recession) i thought it would make it through the tourist-heavy NY summer.
and i think the producers did, too, for that matter. they did NOT bring in rashad and have the show re-reviewed for four weeks of performances.

Can't they get Obama or somebody to see it?

There have been talks of making a film version, no?
TalkinLoud, Yeah, Lily Tomlin was supposed to do it but talks fell through and Estelle became the 2nd Violet instead.
Because she has been for me the only Violet - and because I love her - I want to see Estelle do the movie. She's an Oscar-winner for goodness sake, and she could do it again!
That said, I'd be very happy to see a WORTHY character actress finally get her due and get the part, or someone like Lily who I would have KILLED to see in this part.
I've heard talks of Shirley MacLaine. I like her, but she doesn't deserve it. A real stage pro should get this part. That means no Meryl, either, even though she will probably get it. Few film actresses are in Meryl's league, but she's already swooped one role out from under equally capable Broadway actresses, thank you very much. If I'd been older and wiser I would have RUSHED to see Eileen Atkins in "Doubt."

I'm so glad I have tickets for this Friday's show.
The national tour opens here next month. Can't wait!
I saw the show Tuesday night, and thought it was pretty wonderful. I'm sorry to see it go.
Having never seen it, we just bought tickets for the 28th. Surprisingly good seats too. (12th row center orch.)
Have been meaning to make it to this for some time, and it seemed silly to miss for only $66.50 a ticket... and for the final performance no less.
Can't wait to see Morton and Rashad on the final night!

I'm so disappointed, i so wanted to see this production this was on top of my list for this summer.
Anyone have any info about the national tour?
Was hoping to see Rashad later this summer...
...but the tour is coming through Boston, so I am excited about that!
I expected the show to close at the end of Rashad's run, so I'm surprised they couldn't hold out until July at least. That is when the real summer season starts for me.
