August Osage County closing June 28

Per NY Times.

The fictional Weston clan of Tracy Letts's Broadway play, August: Osage County, may have survived three incarnations of its vicious matriarch, Violet, but the play itself could not survive long into the new theater season. It is scheduled to close after the June 28 performance, its press representatives said, having played 648 performances and 18 previews.

Final Curtain for August
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Oh wow. Too bad re: August Osage County closing June 28

I thought they'd for sure close it on Rashad's last day. Well, I'll be there this Friday for one last visit.

WOW! Much sooner than expected. Damn, I wanted to see Rashad!

Bettyboy, I was thinking the same thing (about it lasting longer). I won't be up in NYC again until the 4th of July holiday.

Week after week poor grosses doesnt make this a surprise. It had a very healthy, highly popular and mediacized life. Not to mention the London run, planned Natl Tour and the boost it gave to Steppenwolf.

At least it had a good run. I look forward to seeing the tour.
"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Noooo. re: August Osage County closing June 28

It had a great run, but I'm still extremely sad to see it go. Maybe I can catch it one more time.

Crap! I was planning on going to NY in July just to catch Rashad in this, I wish they had kept the show running through the end of the month but I can see how that wouldn't have been economically feasible re: August Osage County closing June 28 I am hoping the tour comes to FL, so far I don't think they have scheduled dates.

For a show originally meant to be open for only a few months, it really had a great run. Glad that I was able to see it a few weeks after it opened. Absolutely electrifying.

Well, Damn. The past couple weeks they were heavily discounting.

Everyone going to the last show is incredibly lucky. If I didn't have to start teaching on Jun 29th, I'd fly to NY that weekend and see the wonder that Amy Morton is play the role for one last time. I'm sure Rashad, Murphy, Mayberry, Ashley, and the rest of them will be wonderful as well.
