August: Osage County question

I really want to see this after I move to NYC, but I was wondering how the current cast is? I would've loved to have seen the Tony winners in those roles, but I hear the show is just genius.
Has anyone been to the show lately who can tell me how it's doing?

Posted: 8/18/08 at 2:00pmI just saw the show recently and it still has a few OBC members. This was my first Broadway play (not show) and I thought it was genius. All the performances (especially Amy Morton and Estelle Parsons) were brilliant. GO SEE IT!!!!!

It's far and away the best thing on Broadway right now and one of the best things to hit Broadway in recent memory and from what I hear (unanimously) is that this cast is just as good as the original cast.
I hope to catch it again very soon...it's such a brilliant show.

Well yay! My level of excitement to see this show just keeps growing.
Thanks for all the input, y'all!

Posted: 8/18/08 at 3:05pmThe cast is excellent. Estelle Parsons is great and the rest of the cast--with a minor irrelevant exceptions--is fantastic. I highly suggest seeing the show before Amy Morton leaves though, her performance is haunting, hilarious, heart-breaking, and powerful in more ways than I can begin to describe. She is just magnificent and I truly hope I get to catch her one more time in the role.

Beautiful, stunning, funny, sad, suprising, funny, shocking.
It is one of the best plays EVER. I do there feel there are a few performances I wish were stronger...but the rest is so amazing it doesn't matter.
I really wouldn't worry about who is in it. So far the replacements have been so good that you need to have faith in the producers to continue to make wonderful choices.

Posted: 8/18/08 at 5:02pmI saw the original cast and the show blew me away. I can only imagine how good Estelle Parsons is in the role. I am hoping to see her in the fall. And the 3 hours just FLY by.

If one say...oh...abhorred Estelle Parsons in Roseanne (not necessarily her character, but Parson's line deliveries/voice)--would that person like her in August (I have seen it with original cast)?
I am assuming not. I also could not stand her in Bonnie and Clyde. That voice has the Mary Hart effect on me.

As she plays two completely different characters in Roseanne and Bonnie and Clyde... it would seem you just can't stand Estelle Parsons. I can't imagine you would have a different reaction to her in August. Though, in August... she's playing a very grating character... so it might work in her favor for you.

Oh landry, I completely agree with you. I too have the Mary Hart thing with Estelle, which is not to say I couldn't appreciate her acting talents over the years.
As for August, you know, it's good but it's not really genius, in my opinion. I saw the original cast, and the play was a fine enough evening, but it really is an extended Mama's Family sketch put through the Steppenwolfometer (tm).

Posted: 8/18/08 at 6:24pmJust go in remembering that any show can be over-hyped. This is a great show and definitely deserves its praise and accolades, but I can see how if you went in expecting the greatest theatrical experience of your life, you might walk out feeling let-down.

I didn't do anything but walk on in excited I got a decent seat for once in my life.
It's good for what it is. A television show.

When is Amy Morton scheduled to leave the show?
I've heard mid-October because she is scheduled to direct Dublin Carol at Steppenwolf and that starts previews on November 13th.

The new cast is excellent, especially Estelle Parsons.
And I know that most of the original principals are going to London with the show.
