>>J,
Honey you are 19 and a child. Wicked was a great show for someone your age.
Avenue Q is better for adults.
dude! i'm 18 and i heart Q! even i can see through wicked... i mean, take a look at the lyrics, they're laughable. i actually laughed IN THE THEATRE during "one short day in the emerald city." some of the songs i did like, but others were groan-worthy. i think Q had much more intelligent and witty and ORIGINAL lyrics and music. it was very much of my generation, the gen Y thing. i think it gives a great socialogical perspective. but... that's just me. (btw, does ANYONE else here wanna try and stand up for t'boo?)

"Wicked is a better show to 11-19 year olds and very conservative Bush lovers."
I haven't been keeping up with this thread so much, so this is why I am late on this. But, Corine, do tell me you were kidding...otherwise, you have SADLY mistaken any intention in the story of this show and I think you have no business analyzing it if you really missed the point THAT much. It's mentality is far more liberal than it is conservative. I really, really hope you were joking.

Posted: 7/5/04 at 8:59amNow I haven't heard all of Avenue Q nor seen it, I've only heard a couple of songs, and I have no idea what the book is like. But from what I've heard, it sounds to me that Avenue Q doesn't exactly have a plot, feel free repremand me and explain what the plot is, but that is what I feel the differnce between Wicked and Q is.

Broadway Girl,
I was kidding! I was implying that most conservative republicans could be offended by hearing Bush is only for now.
I know what Wicked is about and I loved Kristin as Glinda.
I may not be POPULAR by my answers by Wicked lovers.
I was just implying to J that I thought Avenue Q was a stronger show and deserved the three Tony awards.
Guess to the kiddies that is not a POPULAR ANSWER.
So to that i say:
Bush is only for now. Avenue Q is forever! Well I hope Avenue Q is forever but as we know from Q everything is only for now!

Another vote for Ave. Q. I also love Schwartz's work ( I have done "Godspell" so many times I put his son through Harvard!)
Wicked was not his best work. I love the fact that is was an American show (not another British import)from an American author, based on an American story. The Tony goes to the "Best Musical" of a certain year. This past year it WAS "Ave Q". It was uniquely wonderful. A show about those first few years out of college, and coming to grips with, I don't know diddly poop!
I think this show plays better to people who are in the mid twenties - folks in their early fifties ( I myself am 41, and I can laugh at it because have already lived through it, and now I get to watch my own kids live through it. And know that they will be fine!)

Exactly mom!
I don't think i would have gotton many of the jokes if i was not in my 30's.
You have to have your heart broken a few times to understand Avenue Q!
(Have had several Princeton's in my life thank you Tom, Scott, Adam and Robert)

That's another thing I love about Avenue Q. I know it's a show that I'll grow to love even more when I'm finally old enough to be their target audience ![]()
BWayBound06, one of the best things about Avenue Q's plot is that while it could practically stand out by itself and be a straight play, it incoporates the all songs coherently. I can understand how the songs could seem random if you've only listened to the CD. If you'd like a synopsis, PM me

Posted: 7/5/04 at 1:54pmI'm 15 and adore Avenue Q, which shows that age doesn't necessarily have anything to do with it. Then again, I also love Wicked. Both shows have their good and bad points in my opinion.

Posted: 7/5/04 at 3:22pmAVENUE SCREW may be the better show and it's possible that the size and callibur of WICKED is deluding people into thinking its better even though I still think it really is IMHO.

PHEW, Corine, you scared me!
And although I have not seen Avenue Q yet (I know, you can start throwing stones at me now)...I don't find it hard to believe that it was a better show, or at least a more clever show than Wicked.
broadwaystar2b, very funny, lol. J, you need to stop calling it Avenue Screw...you're still convincing me you're 12.

Broadway Girl,
I have an ear infection and am in pain and no Doctors work today.
I can't hear well and i feel like death.
But otherwise life is great.
Try lifting 50 pounds of laundry with an ear infection.
LOL
It sucks to be me today.
Oh just a note. I loved Avenue Q and i never throw stones. I also loved Wicked but it is not in the same league as Q.
I have never loved a musical this much ever (I love Millie but Q is in a different league you could say i relate to KATE)

Posted: 7/5/04 at 5:36pmokay J, so you think Wicked is better. You have your opinion and I'm sure people share it.... and obviously there are people who disagree. You've made your point, but there's really no need to shove it in our faces every few posts. It's getting old.

So..what you're saying is...just because Stephen Schwartz has been around a long time, we should just give him a Tony?
This ain't the Oscars. Wicked was not his best work. True, he could have/should have won for "Pippin" or "Rags", but an award for Wicked would have been just what you're saying...an award for hanging around for so long...not for what was the best of the year.
