"I have never loved a musical this much ever (I love Millie but Q is in a different league you could say i relate to KATE) " - Corine2 Cohen
Well won't Forbidden Broadway light a candle in mourning over that.

"Hey, Phantom of the Opera is just as wonderful as Avenue Q. You probably didn't like it because it didn't have a good cast."
Or perhaps they didn't like the endlessly repetitive score or the weak book. It looks pretty, but take away the glitz and there is little substance within.

Hey Jack,
Forbidden Broadway is my favorite review of all time.
Avenue Q is my favorite Broadway show this season.
The Normal Heart was my favorite play. Any other questions?

Why are we having this discussion 5 weeks after the tonys? What's done is done. I am a Q supporter, but even if I wanted Wicked to win best musical, there's nothing I or anyone else can do. J., just let it go, it's a hopeless battle.
ps. I agree with you about POTO mister matt

Posted: 7/6/04 at 2:41pmWhat is going on here? What am I not letting go? In my last post I said why I thought AVENUE is probably the better show but it's small size is causing it to be overpowered by WICKED because WICKED is a bigger show. You guys need to learn that when I'm not kidding around, I make very rational comments outside my opinon. What's wrong with the PHANTOM logo? Is the rule that if you have a show as your photo then you are "one-show-minded?" Should I change it to a cartoon or a bad photo of myself to fit in better? For the record everyone, I like everything by Wildhorn, Lloyd Webber, Schonberg, and Stephen Schwartz. Updated On: 7/6/04 at 02:41 PM

Posted: 7/6/04 at 5:24pmI would like to thank J. for making me laugh my ass off at his many extremely immature posts on this thread. Especially the very unfunny joke of "Avenue Screw". Different people have many different thoughts on what show is better than another, but I mean, common. If youre 19 you could have probably done a little better with addressing the issue rather than acting like a 10 year old.

Posted: 7/6/04 at 5:30pmThe whole thing about Phantom, is that I find the music beautiful and just as entertaining as everything else. I want to know how can I have a weak book if it does not have a book. However there are far weaker plots out there than Phantom's. I guess I'm also a little biased towards it because I saw it in the West End.

You never said why you thought Avenue Q is probably the better show. You just said it was, but didn't say why. Obviously, its size had nothing to do with it because it beat the bigger show for Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical. Huh.
"AVENUE SCREW may be the better show and it's possible that the size and callibur of WICKED is deluding people into thinking its better even though I still think it really is IMHO. "
What a copout! Are you one of the deluded? Or is Avenue Q the better show? If you think Wicked is better, that is fine, but don't say you think Avenue is "probably" the better show, but you think Wicked is actually better in the same sentence. It's wishy-washy madness.
I haven't seen the shows (yet), but I tend to skip over about half the Wicked CD, but I don't skip over any of the Avenue Q CD. Hmmmmmm.....

>> I find the music beautiful
You should. A good chunk of it is ripped from Puccini. :)

Posted: 7/6/04 at 5:39pmAre you talking about the "Poor Fool . ." section? I find this interesting. It resembles it but is not the same song.
#114re: Avenue Screw
Posted: 7/6/04 at 5:40pmAnd part of Millie was apparently ripped from Pirates of Penzance. The music is still good is it not? Caroline or Change uses Christmas songs and different variations of traditional music, but that doesn't mean it's any less of a show.
#115re: Avenue Screw
Posted: 7/6/04 at 5:43pmI have to add that the section from MILLIE that has music from PIRATES was credited in the billing to Gilbert & Sullivan so I don't know if we can say it was ripped. I still don't even think you can say that the music in PHANTOM is "ripped" from Puccini either though.

I am glad that J. and WiCkEdRoCkS have finally found each other. The two of them can have secret parties and douse themselves in their apparent brilliance.

Oh not like entire arias or anything like that, of course, but certainly in melodic themes. A little bit of LA BOHEME, a chunk of BUTTERFLY, even a dash or two of TURANDOT. They're all in there, which is why sometimes that score sounds pretty darn familiar. :)

How long do you think Avenue Q will run? honestly?
and how long do you think Wicked will run?
anyone who disagrees with "Wicked deserved best score and avenue Q didn't" must've skipped over defying gravity when they listened to the OBCR.
I love Avenue Q and I love Wicked. Wicked's music...not comparing to Avenue Q's lyrics, just the music...is REAL. It actually has form and structure and complication unlike the little ditties of Avenue Q (With the exception of a few songs...I wish I could go back to college, Fantasies come true, fine fine line.) Avenue Q's lyrics are hilarious and witty and make even my father laugh (George Bush is only for now!)...but Wicked's lyrics are inspiring and make so many people cry every night. They appeall to different crowds. Avenue Q is going to Vegas. Wicked is touring.
I think that Wicked will be on broadway for a long time. I don't know about Avenue Q...I think they're both in the same situation with leads, Wicked's audience will shrink a little when Idina and Kristin leave, but so will Avenue Q's when John and Stephanie leave. They're more alike than you think.

I didn't know the point of a song was to make us cry...
Oh, and what about those five or so songs in Wicked that SUCK?
Everyone knows the ones I am talking about.
The score of Avenue Q as a whole is just plain stronger than Wicked. Regardless of its Sesame Street sound.
I think Schwartz deserves a Tony, but then again, I think Oliver Stone deserve an Oscar. So?

Posted: 7/8/04 at 1:26amI just don't think of the word "stong" when I think of the AVENUE music. Even though WICKED has those 5 ass licking songs, I think "power" and "strong" with most of the score and I think "cute" and "funny" for AVENUE's score.
