Jen-elphaba?? hmm.. possibly. Nessarose perhaps?? Bring back Randy Harrison (or bring in ADAM!!!) as Boq and get rid of the Gawdawfulwhat's his name and put in Jenna as Nessarose opposite Shoshana Bean as Elphaba.. I would move into the Gershwin!
Hey guys, Went to the benefit last night....oye. Thank God Michael was in it. I believe they let him go last so people would stay. There were maybe three songs that I enjoyed. Michael was awesome as always. For those of you keeping count, I did not say anything stupid to Michael. I did however have a premature clapping during one of his songs. Something in my head said, "song over" so I started clapping. Someone behind us also clapped a little. Boy did I feel dumb. You would think I would know when the song was over, since I have listened to it so much. Oye!

Both very good ideas! I can see Jenna as Nessarose, absolutely. Unfortunately whatsherface (my mind is drawing a blank) appears to be in the show until July. Must rectify this situation! I don't know if Jenna could pull off Elphaba, her voice seems to what's the word I'm looking for... pretty somehow. I associate more grittiness with Elphaba than sweetness. I'd love to hear her sing the major numbers though, just to get an idea of what she sounded like on them. Does Jenna do comedy? I wonder what she'd be like as Glinda (trying to picture her as a blond...).
And yes, bring Randy back as Boq, a far more enjoyable role when he was in it.
So yes last night was very, very long and the drinks were very, very mild, so I had a very, very blase time. Long, unmemorable nights can always be salvaged with strong drinks. Alas, the folks at The Triad didn't help our cause. I'd say probably the folks you expect to be the best were, Euan Morton and Michael (though I wonder if his throat was dry as he kept sticking his tongue out - minds out of the gutters - and the voice was a little raspy). If I could remember anyone else's name, I'd tell you they were all fair to... not so fair...
But it was a night spent out with the BFF and the fake husband. Who could ask for anything more?
Oh wait I know, for Michael to go on *first* the next time so I don't have to sit through everyone else. Yes, that's what I'd ask for.

Shoshana Beans's voice is MUCH prettier than Idina Menzel. She sings the score without ever resorting to Idina's cream/shreek/ear-killing whatever it is.....
Michelle Federer is fine and dandy as Nessa, but Jenna would be FABU!

I've heard Shoshana and I think she's terrific in the part, and her voice has that certain quality that I think Elphaba requires (whereas I think say Eden's voice, while obviously amazing, didn't have that quality, therefore I didn't like her in the role so much and that's what I'm wondering, what qualities Jenna's voice would have). As for Idina, well let's just agree to disagree!
But definitely Jenna as Nessarose, I can actually hear her singing Wicked Witch of the East in my mind.
What did Michael sing??
He sang "First Letter" (*snarfles*) and "Not Afraid" (thank you Jebus he finally said the name of that song) from Easter Rising.

Trisky, I don't dislike Idina at all, but there are certain parts where she slurs her phrases and drops teh singing and goes into a yell. I am not saying she isn't good at Elphaba, but that is what she does. Shoshana pronounces each word clearly and she hits the notes and belts without yelling or sounding forced like Idina does.

I kind of like some of her imperfections as a singer! Perhaps it's because I don't have voice training, but I just haven't heard her yelling when I've seen her (and I've seen her when she was obviously sick). I think she's just one of those performers that there will never be a consensus on as far as her talent. I think she's unbelievable and she never fails to give me chills.

I don't have a bad thing to say about Shoshana other than maybe she adds some riffs that sound a little strange but that's probably because I'm used to the song being sung a certain way. If she got the role after Idina left, I'd be happy to keep making many trips to the Gershwin to see her.
*just wants to SEE Wicked* LOL
Then we need to plan a time for you to come see it with us! I'll use any excuse.

You have to hear Shoshana sing the score a few times to fully appreciate because she DOES do it so differently. It's shocking at first if you are familiar with Idina.
We tried to do lottery last week to see her, alas, we suck and did not win! I'd love to see her with all of the elements put together, makeup/costume, etc.
What other roles on Broadway besides Nessa can we see Jenna performing? Must keep her in NY and singing!
LOL 2day4u! Let me amend that by saying we need to plan a time when there are a) tickets and b) money to pay for them!
