Once upon a time I first held your hand and love was not a crime. In a private world where you said don't look down but then I did, and now you're lost above me.
Oh AG, pass the tissue. Sniff. Sniff.
Such a good song. I always get so sad during cross when he says "Ive tried to be strong, Ive tried to belong, but I dont or I wont, I cant I cant!" You can really see the struggle. He is awesome. It is so moving.
Really though is anyone in this cast less than awesome because I dont think I can find one bad performance.
That part gets me too Bobby_Strong! And the part where he says that if his parents knew they would die. So sad. And the way that John pounds on the confessional while he's singing kills me as well.
Not a bad performance in the bunch. All ridiculously talented for sure, yo.
"Cross" scared the CRAP out of me the first time, when the priest yells. I can't picture the struggle John relays there, "I can't tell my parents they would die, they would die" or "It's not something I can be, it's not okay, not for me...do you know what I'm trying to...? What do I doooo?" So emotional...just crazy. Then when the Priest says "Don't question too much and you'll get along fine" Damn priest...
I feel like running onstage and fixing everything so that Peter and Jason can be together...it's that powerful.
I love BARE

lol. running onstage! I remember when IamEcas was first introduced to the show, she kept repeating all day. I just cant believe it. I mean its so sad. Then she kept saying, why jason? WHY?! It was so funny.
I get so mad at the priest too. Its all his fault. well not really but it just makes me so upset.
I love BARE so much too AG!
I've wanted to run on stage and hug Peter (not because it's Mikey, but because Peter needs comforting) and I've wanted to stop the show and tell Peter and Jason what is going to happen...and for them just to be together and happy *tear*
I love this show so much, I'm currently planning my trip in October to see it
ok i think im on Bare overload why dont i remember all of these parts?... its been too long....im going crazy....October seems like forever....why why why
i dont think october could come fast enough!..i havent got to see the show yet
I'm still trying to keep up with the news (I hate not having my computer around for a few days): does anyone have the link to the news article about John Hill covering as Link LA's Hairspray?
By the way, it was very nice of Damon to post that letter on the official site (which hadn't been updated in months!!). It's heartwarming to know that the creative team appreciates the show's fans!
About John: I agree that he doesn't have a powerhouse voice, but I think that's why they chose him. He has great stage charisma, and as the school golden boy, he definitely has that smoothness, calm and mystery that Peter and Jenna are probably attracted to. Still, earlier in the thread (first few pages) people discussed how he fits compared to Michael. I love John, but I do agree he looks a little too old to be playing high school. Any criticism, though, is easily eclipsed by his memorable performance in Cross.

See, I never understood that criticism considering I think Aaron Lohr looks A LOT older than John and that Jenna is older than John by a few years as well.
Totally OT but Drew Lachey of 98 Degrees is going to be at Bryant Park tomorrow with the cast of Rent. I am so curious to see if he can sing.
Not to get off the subject of John... but to get off the subject of John for a moment. You know what I love about this show? The background interactions that seem so minor, but tell so much about the characters (and how they mouth conversations they're not actually having). Like the way Nadia/Peter are playful with one another, Jason is constantly trying to act like a ladies man, Ivy/Peter seemingly having some sort of friendship, etc. It's interesting to observe.
When I used to *cough* listen to 98 degrees *cough* I thought he sounded good......
But broadway is a totally different thing..
Share thoughts....might take friends to Rent later this year
Well Im sure Drew can sing but probably nowhere near the quality that is needed to pull off rent. But still good luck to him. hope it goes well.
I do agree that john and aaron look real old for high school.
YES I totally agree about the background action. I was thinking the exact same thing. Every time I see it I notice something new. After Confession when Lucas is flirting with Diane and then he slaps her butt. I was laughing really hard. I just love it all. And the staging of wonderland is one of my favorite parts.
Also I think we dont show enough love for Jenna. She really is amazing in this show. I mean its obvious she is missing one thing to really capture the heart of the members of this board and that would be a Y chromosone. But as far as anything else goes she really nails that role and All Grown Up gives me chills everytime! So excellent job Jenna!!
Jenna is probably my second favorite cast member. LOVE her!
Jenna does an AMAZING job IMO. I really feel her vulnerability when she's with Jason, and then the sheer bitch of Ivy with Nadia. The meekness she shows when she confesses to Jason, and the anger during "All Grown Up" are perfect. Great job with a crappy character who just seems to add to conflict IMO. jenna is amazing
after all i was singing her song when i sang in that girls face @ 7-11
I like Jenna a lot, she just has a really tough road to go down with the character of Ivy who can be all over the map at times, which is why I sometimes feel guilty that I don't feel more sympathy for Ivy. I can see Jenna trying her hardest to invoke it, but I'm not sure the writing/direction supports her hard work.
that singing scene is still fresh in my mind Ecas hahaha!
I also agree with the great job with a crappy character. Not crappy just not as impressive as the others.

I feel like I am the only one that DOES feel a lot of sympathy for Ivy. I think a lot of it is Jennas incredible performance, but Ivy is a bitch. But everyone can be a bitch in high school. She makes mistakes, MAJOR mistakes--I think that is why I feel for her but she thinks she has everything and it blinds her then the rug is just pulled out for under her finding out she is pregnant by the guy she loves that has no feelings for her.
This my 1000th POST! Woohoo! I'd thought it fitting to have it in the BARE thread.
I'm looking over some OPIA concert pics again, and I just want to declare over and over again that Michael Arden is the cutest man alive. And I love the pink shirt. Gotta get me one of those. A pink shirt, too.
I think John Hill looks older than high-school because he's so big. Michael Arden is already 6', and John is still taller than him. And as much as I love that chiseled, perfect, Greek god rock hard body of his (*wipe sweat away*), I don't know of any high school boys who have such chests and abs (but maybe I went to the wrong high school ).
Speaking of how much we love BARE, I want to highly recommend you all read the glorious novel, "At Swim, Two Boys" by Jamie O'Neill. It's a masterpiece. I read it a year ago, and it was like understanding Shakespeare for the first time - a wonderful, sensual, soul-encompassing discovery. It only dawned on me now that you guys would enjoy it as well - like BARE, it has an earnest and highly moving love story and melancholic tone to the entire work, only moreso. It's one of the richest and most poetic books I've ever read. Just as some people strive to write the Great American Novel, I think O'Neill has written the Great Gay Novel. The book (a 600 page tome of pure beauty) is about two Irish boys who fall in love in 1916, the backdrop being the Easter Uprising in Dublin. It is landmark literature, and as an English major, the book is an absolute joy for its rich brew of language and its devestatingly beautiful love story. If you're looking for the one gay book that will move you like nothing else, this is it.
Ok, back on topic now.
