Are you asking for opinions, Blue? If you're not, you're gonna get one anyways....haha
I think the character of Peter, from what I gather, seems like the type of person who wears briefs....at least i think, I'm no expert....so if they take that into thought....
I think this may be the best BARE-related opinion poll ever.
I also think that Peter would be one to wear briefs (**hint hint to creative team who may be reading this**).
I totally picture him in boxers for some reason. Though imagining the briefs is working for me as well.
I love the build up to See Me (and the song itself), as well, more follow through on the urgency of 911 Emergency's message for Peter to tell Claire would be interesting.
I also love Ever After a lot, but one shove is probably enough to get the point across!
Does Jason shove Peter more than once? I thought it was only that one time (or at least only once that was hard enough for Peter to fall on the floor and hurt his wrist).
I believe he shoves him twice, or at least in the version I saw, he did.
Yeah. He pushes twice. One right at the begining when he says, "no peter this will always be a problem" and then during the song when he says, "you're the one who went ahead and changed the rules!"
i always tear up. so sad!!
Am I the only one who remembers that the seats at the ATA could slide back like a Lazy-Boy chair?
And did anyone else get to sit in the wobbly broken seat in the corner, front-row far-right? It was hot to see John and Michael make out right in front of you an armslength away, but the seat itself was rather uncomfortable!
i really disliked those seats. i thought i broke it the first time i sat down. i only saw the show from the front row, so at least i didn't have to worry about kicking the person in front of me. but yeah, Dodger Stages is new, so i'm praying for good seats.
just looking at some pictures from the bare shows. how fun would it be to go and drink with the cast and hang out with them. so jealous!
random I know but any good stories about hanging with them after shows and such?

I am new here, and I have to say I just love reading this thread!! I have only saw Bare once, and was supposed to be going again in Oct., but unfortunatley plans have fallen through, so I will have to continue to check this thread for the most up-to-date info!!
First prize goes to whoever knows where my quote and icon are from? (hint-it is Bare related)
Sorry Sterling11, I actually don't know the reference. What is it?
(Welcome to the thread, by the way!)
WHOA! totally random. But i was just checking up on the thread when number 12 came up on my cd of burned songs and i heard your exact quote. I dont know who says it or what it is but someone playing the guitar it is the name of their cd. hahah! i got so excited! random. completely random! but i win woooo!
I dunno...I have to disagree...I think that a love song between Peter and Jason would have to be just about the WORST thing they could do to the show. Sure, I'd love to see a nice sincere love song between two guys but it would be *completely* out of character for Jason. I think what he sings in "You and I" is about as deep as he'll let his feelings show...until the end of course.
There's an interesting editorial opinion by Michael Riedel in this morning's NY Post. You can find on their website at this URL: http://nypost.com/entertainment/27442.htm
It's essentially about how even if Dracula sucks, because they have the funding of this man Joop van den Ende, it will supposedly stay open because he'll make money off of it either way.
The Bare connection to this article is finding out this man owns 50% of Dodger Stage Holdings. I think we've wondered in the past how Bare could have possibly kept itself afloat on $40 tickets and I wonder now, if this wasn't part of the reason, this man's musical whims?
I don't know whether to be relieved that he seems to want to spend his money freely or frightened at what else this spending has produced.
(OT, to BlueWizard, I'm determined to keep you up to date on my progress, am now 380 pages into the book and I find myself anxious for its progress, in a good way. I have to stop myself from flipping ahead. I also fear the anticipation will come crashing down on me whenever I get to wherever I think I want to wind up, if that makes any sense. Gaaaahhh... I'm totally sucked in and have bags under my eyes to prove it, from staying up to read last night.)

I wish I had spare money I could spend on musical whims. Thanks for the link Trisky, it's really interesting.

WOW!! You are a speed reader. I wasn't feeling well last night, so I didn't read much and since I am moving Friday, I'm guessing my leisure reading will be put on hold for a bit. I'll have spare time to read on the metro next week. One thing I hate about the summer is that I drive so much because of softball games. It will be nice to use mass transit again, even if it means softball is over.
As for the Peter/Jason love scene. I have not seen the show, but from what I know of it, I think an additional private moment between P/J would be nice. To show the audience what they mean to each other, nothing too heavy. I think someone mentioned this before, but like having Jason help Peter tie his tie or vice versa.
I do read really, really fast. In fact I showed the book to a few people yesterday to read the back cover and I found myself getting impatient that they took so long to read it. That's bad of me, I know.
As for Peter/Jason and a love song, I disagree that the potential for Jason to say anything more in a song is maximized in You and I. Even what he's saying there is fairly non-shallow, under the surface, ditto Best Kept Secret. I'm not saying they should be singing a chorus of 'I love you's' throughout the show or anything, that wouldn't feel right and it's not what I want. I just think they need a moment alone and/or a moment that's not totally fraught with angst.
Even Shakespeare gave R&J a moment alone!

That's hilarious, Tricky! I'm glad you're enjoying the book. I know what you mean about being tempted to look ahead - that's what I did when I read the book. I'm assuming you've met MacMurrough - he is, IMO, the most interesting character in the book. He goes through a really amazing character arc.
About a love song: it doesn't have to by a wishy-washy "I love you" kind of track. Just an extra moment to show that Peter and Jason's relationship isn't all conflict and secrets. I don't think Jason's feelings are shallow, given the descriptions he provides later in the show in "Best Kept Secret" and "Once Upon a Time" (and then especially in "Bare") - it seems he's as emotionally invested in this relationship as Peter, only that he's also petrified of the consequences.
I have met MacMurrough, he's in the middle of his transformation right now. I'm missing Doyler at the moment though!
Thinking about the love song business some more, and though the music is upbeat and they're joking, it's pretty telling of the depth of Jason's feelings for Peter that he's saying things like "I'll be with you always, forever you and I". And also "I'll wipe away your doubts". There's a certain amount of reassurance in his words for Peter, even when he's trying to keep all of his bouncing identities up in the air for everyone else.
I think, if I didn't believe that Jason felt as deeply for Peter as Peter feels for him that the emotional crux of the show might fall apart.

I have been looking ahead. I'm so bad about that. MacMurrough is a really interesting character so far. I'm interested to see how he changes and why. They mentioned his character changing in the reading group questions. I guess we will have to start on OT thread on this subject soon.

That is what I was thinking. Of course, not having seen the play, I really have nothing to draw upon and everyone can feel free to ignore this. But I have heard the play & I think another private moment btw Peter & Jason could add alot to the show and help the audience understand the depth of their feelings for one another.

They need a private, uninterrupted scene in their dorm room.. the dorm is their sanctuary, but it was never established before.

Private scene in the dorm, hmmmm? But seriously, I found it strange that Peter and Jason were roommates, and yet this was never really emphasized or discussed. Being roommates with your lover would greatly affect the dynamics of the relationship and how intense it would be.

There are reading group questions??
MacMurrough is interesting because he starts off as a rather cynical, bawdy dirty gentleman - a kind of young Oscar Wilde - but through his relationship with Jim (another wonderful character - actually, all the characters in "At Swim, Two Boys" are amazing and memorable), he develops a new idealism and earnestness.
But I guess we should save this for the eventual OT discussion thread!

So true and at least it's acknowledged in Act II that they're not living together any longer, obviously because that would be too painful. They've spent 5 years living with one another/loving one another, surely that room has a story to tell.

And a video to market.

In the copy I bought.

The only private moment seems to be before the rave. Maybe that should either be expanded or they should include another private moment.
Wow, go away for a few hours and the thread explodes! :)
Totally OT but I just read that AG won the Avenue Q lottery and met Adam Pascal. So cute. I expect to see pictures AG!!
Anyhoo, to throw my two cents in, I think a love song between Jason and Peter would be amazing. We know that Jason isn't as demonstrative in his love for Peter in public but we know that when they're alone, things are very different (i.e. the infamous borrowing of the shirt scene). I think a scene in their dorm room (as Broadwayguy suggested) would make sense.
Oh, and I totally get a boxers vibe off of Peter. Besides, I need John to be the only one in briefs on stage. Heart cannot take both boys in them.
