I think Trisky still has the link to the L.A cast because she sent it to me recently. I'll find out for you BlueWizard. It was so odd to see the original cast.

Don't worry, I found it. Yay Google!
This page leftover from the old website (which now directly links to the new one). There's also a picture of the old BARE logo, which I like better (but the green is a bit supernatural). They really need a new BARE logo for the reopening. I think the pictures of John and Michael in the logo aren't taken for the show, but are portfolio pictures.
Looking at the LA cast is weird: it's like an alternate universe! Very weird. And who is John Torres? His name sounds familiar.
Whoa, that's one fierce picture of Jenna!

Thanks BlueWizard. It is like stepping into bizarro world!
Almost everyone sounds familiar for some reason and I love that Jennie Kwan from "California Dreams" was in it. Yes, I used to watch "California Dreams".

I'm sure they were all great in the roles... insert rest of polite disclaimer and hey, Bare, yay! But people complain about John/Aaron looking too old for the show? Um... age is nothing but a number, yadda yadda, but I'd have a hard time believing all those folks were high school kids.
And if the L.A. version of Nadia was supposed to be "fat", I'd hate to see what she was supposed to look like skinny.
The only part of the L.A. version I've heard was some random song I found on LimeWire, it was a version of God Don't Make No Trash which I still have somewhere.
BlueWizard, I made myself an LJ icon last night, which I think you'll appreciate!

I love it!
Wasn't there supposed to be an amazing song, "Plain Fat A$$ Jane" or something, that was in the original LA production and made its way to the New York workshops, but not the final cut? It was supposed to be another song for Nadia.

Yes BlueWizard, it was Plain Jane Fat Ass. I seem to recall, very, very vaguely, that someone said the song was either redundant for Nadia or that A Quiet Night At Home worked better. Something along those lines.

Speaking of the L.A. show, I just found the L.A. version of Role of a Lifetime by random chance on LimeWire. How bizarre that we would be talking about it this afternoon. LOL
The guy playing Peter is good-ish... just not Michael. His voice is, I don't know, wobbly or something. I'm not sure of the technical term. He sounds like a good actor though. The song is also much tighter now, lyric wise.

I love Plain Jane Fat Ass and am a little hopeful that it finds its way back into the show although it is a little harsh!
Also in Best Kept Secret there are a few lines that i loved like jason saying "I know I should be the hero to fullfil your dreams but some ever afters just cant be", although I am torn with this one because I think the NY version is perfect as it is!!
And in Birthday Bitch Peter and Jason have a longer part together and Peter sings, "I wanna go back to the rave, the two of us dancing together out there in the open, so then what's stopping us now, I hear our song on the radio, and I don't care who know's." Then Jason gets mad before walking off with Ivy.

That's actually an underlying issue throughout BARE: Peter's tendancy to put Jason on a pedestal. Peter constantly refers to Jason as his hero ("Once I had a hero, guess he couldn't stay", or in Ever After, "you slew all my giants, ignoring your own; now they haunt you..."). In the end, tragically, Peter realizes that Jason was "lost in the teachings was a boy, so all alone and scared."
By the way, I'm listening to Absolution right now. My god, Michael's voice is so beautiful and heartbreaking in this song, I think I like him best in this moment.

Despite the fact that it makes me BAWL, I could listen to this song on loop for hours on end, if only for the "Father, we were so in love, and that's what I find so odd, our love was pure, and nothing else brought me closer to God". I've heard several different versions of that line and they all amaze me.
About the L.A. production, I keep trying to imagine the show with another four characters, altogether. That's quite a sweeping changing to cut them all out.

OK, I finally listened to the LA Peter's version of "Role of a Lifetime". Eeeew. Yuck yuck yuck! I actually cringed.
The LA Peter sounds too much like a member of a boy band. Too poppy, not enough subtlety and inner depth. And way, waaay too much vibrato - like his voice is trembling from nerves. I swear, it sounds like a Backstreet Boys version of "Role of a Lifetime".
I'm glad Damon and Jon Hartmere changed some of the lyrics, because the original ones are kinda amateur ("Acting's in his blood, and I know how good he is"). And the original is missing the most memorable and evocative lyric, "Where confusion is a crime, so you fill your life with sound; and if you dance like hell you hope you never touch the ground."
It's safe to say that Michael Arden OWNS the role.
