FIRST IN THE BRIEFING: New York City Center announced that due to popular demand, it will be making a cast recording of its Fall Gala Presentation of Bat Boy: The Musical, written by Keythe Farley, Brian Flemming, and Laurence O'Keefe, and directed by Alex Timbers. The album will be released by Sh-K-Boom and Yellow SoundLabel, with a release date TBD.

That production was a rarity: a much anticipated new look at an older show that delivered. It was charming and perfectly scaled to Encores! specifications. Just ambitious ... enough. With a glorious performance by Kerry Butler, moving up a notch in the hierarchy of female roles in the show.

Does this really have its sights set on Broadway via ATG? Feels like a passion project with no real Popular Demand, but hey it’s not my money.

Reddit says the cast was in the studio last week -- I didn't catch any of the photos/posts, but I'm so excited to know this is coming! I loved the NYCC cast and the new songs.
It would be odd to me if they're recording this and still planning for a Broadway transfer (not that I'd complain). Maybe they're going to see how the album is received before making a decision?

I'm loving this recording! The cast sounds fantastic -- Taylor Trensch and Kerry Butler are (unsurprisingly) highlights, and Alex Newell's "Children, Children" captures the energy of that moment so perfectly.
I've enjoyed catching moments that remind me of the scores in Legally Blonde and Heathers. I love Laurence O'Keefe!

I have not seen a production of the show. Sad that I could not get back to see the City Center production. A great cast. (And I will see Taylor in anything.)
I skipped through the Off-Broadway cast recording when it came out and wasn't crazy about it so never listened to it all the way through.
Well my, this is a really nice and fun score! Enjoying it on a Saturday night in with a pizza. Listening to it yes, you hear what's to come with "Legally Blonde" and "Heathers" which is fun. This recording has a fuller sound but retains that great "Off-Broadway" feel from the original recording. (If that makes sense)
If this transfers somewhere, with this cast, I will fly across country, if possible, to see it. JMO
