I sat in the rear orchestra for Dolly. I was on the house left. Everything was very good except for one Barnabee in Cornelius went up to the attic or whatever that upper level was. I could not see them but that whole scene was a couple minutes.
Just got center balcony for the first preview.
And dear God, that commercial.

Seriously, that video is so freaking creepy. It feels like he has Bernadette Peters locked up in his basement or something

Wth is this?? This is seriously really weird and really creepy. The voiceover sounds like Rudin's got Bernadette and Victor in the Shubert's basement for leaking info. Dear god, I hope this isn't on TV.

Genuine tears from laughing at that commercial. Creepiest and funniest thing I've ever seen.

Apparently, we have the same seat. Here's a view from your/my seat.

is the ad you're talking about the same one on their Twitter? (I don't have a Facebook to see it there). If so, it's WEIRD. Definitely not he angle I expected...
Here's the link to the commercial. It's so, so bad.

It looks like the beginning of a 90's horror movie or sitcom, take your pick. I was close to tears from laughter, my god they really aren't helping themselves
I, for one, am excited to see what she does with the role. I think the role of Dolly Levi is much more suited to her than that of Mama Rose in Gypsy, or Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun. I think Bernadette brought what she could to those 2 roles, but overall wasn't 100% right for them (although I have to admit, after seeing a video of La LuPone in a production of Annie Get Your Gun, I'd have to say Bernie was a way better choice). Bernie always sounds amazing on the cast recordings though. All this being said, I'm planning on going to see this show for my upcoming birthday.
That ad seriously sounds like if Evan Hansen were writing a fan letter to Bernadette Peters.

Not for the same performance I hope. That would be a horrid online booking error. If it is I call dibs as it's my birthday !!

It was my first gig writing ads. Give it a break! I think it's cute personally but odd - they need to get a new ad if they want to sell tickets outside theatre circles who probably already know it's happening anyway.
Some additional thoughts:
* I like that they are really trying to make this seem like an 'event'. It's cute.
* Why have they described this performance as one to "cap" her career? Are they suggesting it's her final Broadway role?
For Bette Midler, it was funny/acceptable because "Bette Midler. Hello Dolly. On Broadway" truly WAS all you needed to know.
The general public isn't going to know what the heck this is talking about. People know her as a beloved Broadway star who was also in The Jerk / Annie / Pennies From Heaven / Silent Movie.

For your second point, I don't think they're saying that. I think it's just a way of saying "Hey, come see the Tony award winning revival of Hello, Dolly!, and Bernadette Peters- the Broadway legend with a big resume under her belt- is playing the title role!" to generate interest. If you market it as her best performance, people are bound to get interested.

Thanks for all your feedback on the commercial. It was my first time out doing voice-overs and your comments have devastated me

That commercial is just weird. LOL @ absolutely no mention of The Goodbye Girl.
That commercial is doing exactly what good advertising is designed to do: it has people talking about it.
I got tickets for March, do you know if they'd be able to be picked up at the box office yet?

There was a reference to THE GOODBYE GIRL in the script I read from. Don' t know why it was deleted.

Oh honey. That commercial was truly awful and kind of disrespectful to her. I wouldn't even joke about it like that. I was glad to hear about your church group enjoying the show. Made me very happy. I will be back for Bette's final bow and I am so excited.
