"Producer Scott Rudin announced today that the legendary two-time Tony Award-winning Bernadette Peters, capping a 60-years-long career of triumph after triumph as "the most accomplished musical comedy star of her generation" (The Washington Post), will take on the title role in the most successful and beloved Broadway production of the year: HELLO, DOLLY! Ms. Peters will begin performances Saturday evening, January 20, 2018, prior to a Thursday, February 22 opening night. A new block of tickets goes on sale, via Telecharge.com and Shubert Theatre box office, Saturday, September 9, at 10:00 A.M. (ET)."

If memory serves me up right It happened when Ms Peters and the late great Elaine Stritch, replaced Catherine Zeta Jones and Angela Lansbury in A Little Night Music. The production closed temporarily June 20, 2010, then reopened to previews July 12, 2010, with an official reopening August 1,2010.

Thanks! This is perfect casting at its finest. I'm wondering when we'll get news of Taylor's replacement. Are Gavin and Kate staying with the show/are they extending?

This. If Rafael or Cynthia criticized a Rudin show, they would lone their place in the business. So of course they criticized one of the weaker shows.

Yaaaas. Also, the original production did go dark after Channing left for Bailey's production to come in. I think she had previews and an official opening too. But it was almost a new production, with new costumes, arrangements, and a completely new company.
