Miss Saigon because it was first...
Amour...I don't know why, but I loved it. And I've always liked Michael Legrand.
Last Five Years...emotional rollercoaster!!!! RJB is brilliant. And of course...NORBERT LEO BUTZ!
Wicked is my parents' favorite...my dad seemed pretty interested through the entire show so that has to be on my list.
CABARET
Of all time: "Les Miserables"
On Broadway Right Now: "Avenue Q" and/or "The Producers" when Nathan and Matthew are in it
I also love Pippin, Rent, Chicago and Damn Yankees.
Sunday in the Park with George.
Oh yeah.

Les Miz, West Side Story, Ragtime and Evita are up there for what I believe to be the best musicals of all time. Nearly flawless books, scores, choregraphy and staging.
I'm going to skip the obvious (CATS or RENT) and go with a more classic piece like MY FAIR LADY, OKLAHOMA! or SOUTH PACIFIC. I enjoy those very much.
Several choices:
RAGTIME (probably #1 on my list)
GUYS & DOLLS
WEST SIDE STORY
CHICAGO
CABARET
42nd STREET
All of Rodgers and Hammerstein...
As I think of more, I'll let you know.
Don't kill me...Wicked is my favorite. I particulary didn't like Les Miz.
1) Wicked
2)Hairspray
3)A Chorus Line
4) Annie
5) The Producers
6) Fosse
7) GypsyPhantom of the Opera
9) Fiddler on the Roof
10) West Side Story
No particular order
Avenue Q
A Chorus Line
Wicked
Hairspray
Thoroughly Modern Millie
Phantom of the Opera
Annie Get Your Gun (real Broadway=something entertaining and fun to watch)
Cabaret
Chicago

I would have to say "Les Mis". Loved "Aida" too, but only with Heather. "Ragtime" is up there.
Best overall theatrical experience for us was "Hedwig"- saw it 27 times.
Jeez, people. One. Just one. You dont get to save your brother and his dog.
I would have said wicked, but its novelty is wearing off. Im going back to Parade.

Has to be Les Miserables! Most genious piece of music ever written.
Hmmm... in no order at all...
Ragtime
Producers
Lion King
Anything Goes
Avenue Q
I hated Les Mis (saw it 3 times), REALLY hated Cats, and do not see Wicked until late summer.
Oooh I love The Pirates of Penzance!!
...but my vote still goes for Les Miserables. That is by far my favorite production of all time even if the current touring company (which I just saw for the first time- I'd only ever seen it on Broadway all 30 times) needs a swift kick in the butt. That show could shine even with the worst cast possible.

I agree that it is impossible to choose/agree the 'best' musical, but my favourites are:
Les Miserables
The first show I saw in the West End (and on Broadway) and the show I have seen the most number of times and still enjoy it. I do prefer, however, the version pre the cuts to reduce the total time of the show. Some of the cuts still jar and upset the scene continuity and sense.
Tanz der Vampire
I do not understand very much german but I do understand the power of a gloriously gothic, sexy, seductive musical I love this show! (not Dance of the Vampires which I never saw live).
Wicked
Well it had to be in here didn't it?!! Had been wanting to see this show since getting the OBC and loving the music. And I loved it on stage too. I hope it has a long and successful life and also that it transfers to the West End (soon please!).
That's my twopennyworth, or should that me two cents worth?

Good heavens no. GOOOOOOOOD HEAVENS NO! Do not say that unless youve seen some poor misguided theater group do the high school version. Ive seen two. And not from just any high schools.
One was nationally acclaimed and made it to National Thestpian Festival. One was from one the best fine arts school in texas. And both BLEW HARD CORE!

Sorry to pull up an old thread... I was just looking through my past postings and wondered if anyone who is still posting on this site and was posting back then still felt the same. Or if you supplied a list, if you wanted to make any additions and/or deletions. I find my comment about "everytime the show is revived (sweeney) it's the Prince staging to seem somewhat dated.... wondered if anyone felt the same.... Again, I know some of you hate these old threads coming back to haunt you, but I thought this one could use a revisit.
P.S. Still love Merrily.... though in a different way.
