re: BEST performances by performers at the Tonys!

it's true. and he's off pitch on the recording also. he got better in 42nd street. i just love seeing his ebullience and how artless he seemed. i also loved robert morse doing I BELIEVE IN YOU at the 1990 tonys i think it was. magic. i admit i have a weakness for actors and i will accept a few bad notes here and there.

Orbach wasn't alone there. So many singers in the '60s (pop groups included!) had the "flatsy-watsies." I think it was more acceptible then. (Perhaps?)

But I also think the performers of that era had more charm and warmth, in many cases.

Bernadette Peters doing "Rose Turn" was phenomenal, and the year Jennifer Holliday sang "And I Am Telling You"....Just great!

I'm noticing most of these listed are post-1995 (except for Dreamgirls).

imho, the Dreamgirls performance will live on forever. It was simply astonishing in every way.

I have to go with Dreamgirls also. I didn't know much about the show at all but Jennifer Holiday's performance had me on my feet. I still remember it vividly.

I thoroughly enjoyed Bernadette Peters' 'Rose's Turn' on the Tony's. Although it was the only piece of her Mama Rose performance that I did enjoy...

Besides a strained voice, Pinkins' 'Lott's Wife' was stunning.

Applause from APPLAUSE. Watching "Broadway's Lost Treasures" its amazing to see how the time of Tony performances have decreased. Its a shame re: BEST performances by performers at the Tonys!

OK honey, we get it, you can use adjectives.

Actually, most of them are adverbs.

Sutton's "Forget About the Boy" was amazing.

I got chills in Bernadette's "Rose's Turn." I was so happy because when I saw her live she was sick and didn't give it her all, at least that is how I felt.

Louden's Vodka would be my number 2 choice. It was brilliant. "I'm too good for this song, but I'm not to good for this dress!"

Ditto to Michael Jeter and "We'll take a glass..."

I liked Jonathan Pryce doing "American Dream" and Lilias and cast doing "My Body" from The Life.

re: BEST performances by performers at the Tonys!

I hear about these three Tony performances (Gypsy, H2S, and Dreamgirls) all the time, and I'm seriously dying to see them If ANYONE has ANY of them available please PM me.

Oh, and the favorite moments that I've seen on the Tonys thus far (and I haven't seen too many of them, only post-2004 and anything on Bway's Lost Treasures) are probably Patti LuPone's "Anything Goes", Walter Bobbies' "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat", Kristen Chenoweth's "My New Philosophy", Les Cagelles and George Hearn's "I Am What I Am" and, most recently, Les Cagelles and Gary Beach's "La Cage Aux Folles" and Hugh Jackman's "Not the Boy Next Door".

re: BEST performances by performers at the Tonys!

Mark and Scott's kiss on the Tony's still takes the cake for my favorite moment, I was alone in my apartment screaming and clapping!
But in regards to actual production numbers...
-Grand Hotel, "We'll Take A Glass Together"
-The Lion King, "The Circle Of Life"
-Kiss Of The Spider Woman, "Where You Are"
-Chicago (1997), "All That Jazz/Honeyrag/Finale"
-Gypsy (2003), "Rose's Turn"
I'm sure JHo's "And I'm Telling You..." was fab!

re: BEST performances by performers at the Tonys!

james2, it might be easier for you to list the ones you didn't like... just kidding!

I agree with the Foster siblings comment. They both were wonderful probably my favorites, although Hunter and Urinetown were completely robbed of the best musical trophy.

We take a glass together is another great one.

re: BEST performances by performers at the Tonys!

I agree with "Not the Boy Next Door" Hugh is MINE! (or I wish he was.)
Also,
"Everybody's Got the Right"- Assassins
"The American Dream"- Miss Saigon (Jon Pryce LOVES his car)
"Ragtime"- Ragtime
"Along Came Bialy"- The Producers

They really need to put Bernadette's "Rose's Turn" on Broadway's Lost Treasures.
If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)
