...is already up.
Passed by the Imperial last Thursday, August was still all around the theatre, both on 45th and 46th.
Wise move for the team to boost the show, tagged as the musical-to-beat in the coming season, this Memorial Day weekend. The doors on 46th Street also had a blow-up of one of the scenes from the show.
Any snapshots? Coming soon, I suppose.

Thanks for the links and photos!
I think the one on 45th Street is temporary, it still had some random brands printed on the reverse side of each giant sign. I hope they do something a la Victoria Palace for the Imperial facade as well. The buzz is that this will be the next big hit after Jersey Boys and Wicked. You know, those shows that fill 100% week after week.

Posted: 5/25/08 at 1:23amI don't like it. One of my favorite things about the Imperial marquee is what they can do with the sign above the marquee, they can do cut-outs like with DRS or Les Miz, so i feel like their should be one of "Billy" dancing, or something. This just seems lazy.
re: BILLY ELLIOT Marquee#12
Posted: 5/25/08 at 1:24amIt looks like a temporary sign, you can even see the screw heads in it.

I agree with rentboy.
I hope they spice it up a bit.

Posted: 5/25/08 at 1:32amThe marquee is going to confuse/mislead a lot of tourists during the summer months. They're going to want to see it, but oh, too bad.

They started to modify the text treatment during auditions:
Anyhow, verynewyorkcurious, I think it's more of making people aware that it's coming, and that the general public can snag tickets beginning June 15th. You're always special with American Express.

Posted: 5/25/08 at 1:39amOh I know, being.jeremiah.. It's better for business this way, not like this isn't going to be a blockbuster hit.

Now why can't we have that eye-catching one from London?
Is New York too sophisticated for a little glitz and sparkle?

re: BILLY ELLIOT Marquee#22
Posted: 5/25/08 at 2:09amWhat's wrong with a little tease, just in time for the summer? If a movie can do a teaser trailer a year in advance, why can't a show not try to catch the eyes of the theatregoer now who will keep it in mind for their next trip?

I don't think that there is a problem with them putting up a temporary marquee. I do think that it will be a temporary and not the real thing. However, there is nothing wrong with doing it this early because there are a lot of people who visit new york city this time of year and also visit it in the fall. It will get people to realize that this show is coming to NYC.
Besides, I doubt that this is the first Broadway show to have a temporary marquee or a show that will change it later on.
