BOOK OF MORMON Standing Room (Wednesday)

I'm making a plans to try and score standing room seats for THE BOOK OF MORMON for August 17th. What time should I get to the theatre and are my odds of getting a standing room spot better because there are two shows?

(I know there are threads on this, but your help is greatly appreciated).

They start selling tickets an hour before the performance, so it depends which performance you'll want to see. When I did it, I went on a two show day (keep in mind that the evening shows on two-show days are NOT at 8, but at 7) and I got there DURING the matinee. We sat down outside the theater at probably 2:30ish, and we were probably 11th or 12th on line. There are only 28 spots, so spots could have run out. If I were you, I'd get there a lot earlier, as we did it in the early summer before people started getting there at obscene hours of the morning to wait on line.
Bring a snack, bring a friend, make some friends on the line. Chances are, you'll be standing with some of them during the show!

Anyone know how early the line HAS been forming? (I'm looking at trying for SRO next wednesday.)

I went last Thursday and I arrived at 12:15 and I was 8th in line. The people ahead of me were there as early as 730 am. I had standing room spot 109 which was dead center! Most people ahead of me were only getting 1 ticket. The girl in line ahead of me was there at 8am and I arrived at 1215, so I really think you would be ok getting there at noon. The show was at 7pm so it was 6 hours but it was not really that bad. The show was phenomenal! Def worth the wait.

I walked past today at 9:20am and there was already a line. At 1:00 there were about 30 or so people in line. It looked like people might have already been in line for the evening performance.

Now I have a REALLY stupid question. If I'm the first one there (I'm planning on showing up between 8 and 9 for the matinee) how do I know WHERE to start the SRO line?

From what I've seen doing lotto 9x (and finally won today!!), there is a box office window that faces the street on the right side of the theater. You line up in front of that exterior window and purchase your tickets from it as well.

yep, there's basically an outside box office window where the SRO line starts. it's clear to see.

Also, what is the stagedoor like during a matinee?
-Who comes out?
-Is it a mob scene?

the stage door after a matinee(Wed/Sat) is a zoo. everyone comes out, but the crowd is insane. everyone from the 2pm show is leaving the theatre, yet there's also the SRO crowd right by the stage door and there's the hundreds of people also trying the lotto for the night show.

This is what I posted in another thread:

Me and my friend got there at 12:45pm for the Wednesday 7pm performance and ended up being 5th and 6th in line. Fortunately, it wasn't that hot a day and the height of the buildings provides you with plenty of shade. We made friends with the other ladies in line, so we could keep each other's spaces while we would go and get food/restroom breaks. Did a lot of sitting and a bit of standing, and found that it was not a bad wait. I'd rather the afternoon wait than getting up uberly-early in the morning. The queue got gradually bigger as the hours went by.

Of the evening SRO people. There was a big matinee line when I got there, which dwindled down once they'd sold all the matinee SRO tickets. I believe there was one more person behind us, and more people didn't come until the next hour or two. Was really surprised actually, I honestly thought it'd be worse.

I went three or four weeks ago. I got off my bus at about 6:15am and was in the SRO line by 6:30am. We were eighth in line. Someone asked the first people who were in line what time they got there and they said 4:30am. The next people didn't come until 8am or so, so I would say get there at 8 or before to secure your spot for the matinee.

As for the stage door, it wasn't as mobbed as you guys are saying. :P There was a line for SRO for the evening performance, but they weren't in the way and I would say there were about 50 people standing at the stage door. Everyone came out and signed, but Andrew was in a rush.

Slightly off topic but I didn't want to start a new thread...

So I just spent far too much money on a premium ticket for the first Sunday matinee in September when I'm going to be in NY, but am considering still trying Standing Room earlier that week (due to other commitments I've got doubts about actually being able to get to the queue early enough) and, if successful, possibly returning my ticket on Sunday.

I've never returned a ticket before, is it just a matter of walking up to the box office and saying I'd like to return the ticket I bought, they then re-sell (presumably without any problems) and the money goes back on to my credit card?

Also just if anyone else is also looking to splurge, there were at least 4 or 5 single premium seats available on Telecharge for each performance between Thursday 1st and Sunday 4th September! I would guess maybe some are around for other performances around then too?

I went last Saturday and got there around 8:30 (If I had gotten there any later I wouldn't have gotten a ticket). By the time I got there the line was a 3 feet past the stage door and a lot of people were there. I ended up getting the last two tickets! The best time to get there is around 7:30 or 8. No later than 8:30.

Weekends have been a lot more competitive, but if you go during the week you should be fine getting there mid to late morning. On super-hot days (like last week) you can get there around 1pm and be fine, but then you have to struggle through the weather.

I was there last Sunday, got there at 7:00am and was 14th or so in line. About 5 people after me in line ended up getting tickets. First person had gotten there at like 5:30am. Hope that helps.

I did SRO this past Wednesday and it went down like this:

I got there at 8...I was about 17th in line and was only interested in tix for the matinee (I cannnot imagine staying in line until the evening show from that time until 6pm!)

Luckily a number of folks only got one ticket -- because I got my tix as did a number of people after me. There were a few people that won the lottery...and at least one of them them ALSO bought SRO tix.

Most of the people in line were friendly and all was good. But there was one older woman (even older than me!) that was a PIA. I had mentioned to the folks around me that my sister and niece were arriving but that they were NOT getting in line for additional tix. Any time my sis came near me, she got all nervous and kept watching them like a hawk. We were all putting our names in for the lottery but didn't win. Just as the lottery was ending, the paranoid lady started telling us to be careful of line crashers that "always" happened. Right after that a woman a person or two in front of me asked if I wanted her 2nd ticket for my niece -- or maybe I asked her, I really don't remember. (My neice had planned to go shopping if we didnt win lottery, getting us 3 tickets.) Then the lady came up to the small group of us that had been chit chatting -- including the lady that offered me her 2nd ticket and kept asking me how many tickets I was getting. All I said was that I was purchasing my 2 "allowed" tickets. She kept me asking about the OTHER folks in front of me. And she kept saying over and over....but there are three of you, not two of you -- there are three of you. I didn't tell her about the gal giving us her 2nd tix...it didn't seem like any of her business, and I'm sure she was going to make a stink abou it.

Even after we got our tix she kept staring and pointing at my sister. I thought my sister was going to belt her. I'm hoping what we did wasn't wrong...every person in line IS entitled to two tickets after all. BTW, the woman I was discussing did indeed also get tickets.

I had a woman like that when I did SRO.

My friend and I got there at 6:30am and I was leaving that like around 7:30am to do the Spider-Man rush, but coming back after to keep him company. I was not buying any tickets for the SRO spots. Well, I got back there and there was this older woman who kept counting the people while I was there and when I got back, she created this huge fuss about how there was one extra person but she couldn't figure out who it was. I finally told her that it was me because she was being incredibly obnoxious and I explained the situation and she was just acting like a word they say repeatedly in Hasa Diga Eebowai. :P
