Has anybody ever been backstage to Wicked? Did you have to pay? How did you get backstage as in did you just ask someone that was working at the stage door or you had connections? Updated On: 12/31/04 at 12:37 PM

You can't just go backstage. You have to know someone in the cast, or have some kind of special circumstance. A friend of mine from school has gone, because she went to the high school that Idina graduated from, and one of her teachers has kept in touch with Idina. She didn't seem to think it was anything special. It's kind of chaotic back there.

uummm.... like what? slip someone a $20 under the table? There is NOTHING to see backstage. Backstage is also like a performer's home.. it's rude. You only have business there if you are in the show or someone in the company invites you for a reason. Walking up to someone and saying "I want to go backstage" would be EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY rude and a COMPLETE violation.

Yeah, I went once and I've seen it. It is kinda chaotic, especially before the show, actors and crew members rushing about. The costumes are hangingon the wall and they're really really pretty up close. It's not too special. In the actors' dressing rooms, they all have all those pictures and stuff, and Idina has like a little bathroom and her makeup table is COMLETELY covered with fan stuff. (With good reason... she has enough of it!) Hope that helps.

They might auction it off during the next BCEFA fundraising season but it's a very VERY VERY rude thing to just ask for Updated On: 12/31/04 at 12:42 PM

And no, you don't have to pay, you just have to personally know a cast member usually, or get invited.

Easy, kids, WickedIsLife was just asking a simple question. I didn't see anything there about her planning to actually barge backstage uninvited. Are you all official Gershwin security or something?

And to clarify - backstage is NOT like an actor's home. It's their office. Their home is their home and I'm sure they would tell you the same. They don't feel like they're going "home" when they go to work any more than any of us do.

I was just asking because on the office Wicked website (www.wickedthemusical.com), it says under Oz Interactive :

"Are backstage tours available?
Tours are currently only available to groups, upon request, for a donation fee to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. The fee amount depends on the size of the group."

then WHY did you ask????????

and by "group" that doesn't mean five nut job fans at a stage door. Try over 20 people and a pformal group like a school, church group, etc.

I see... thank you.
But why would someone want to go on a tour of backstage? There isn't all that much to see...
I guess if you wanted to use it as a chance to meet the actors.

Ew. Calm down, broadwayguy2. Just because you don't understand someone's fascination with going backstage doesn't mean it's stupid. It's like, some people are fascinated with getting autographs, while others are fascinated with Adam Fleming. There are just some things that others don't understand.

OK, can I just ask a simple question?
What are you expecting to see when you go back there?
It's nothing special, if you want pictures.
Just letting you know, if you spend lots of money to get yourself and your class into there, you might be disappointed.

I think it's just the thrill and excitement of being "behind the scenes". I don't find it fascinating, but I can understand why people would. Just the fact that you are in a place where we (the audience) aren't supposed to be is fun. And also, we can see the inner workings of a show and watch how things get done. It can be interesting.

I thought it would be exciting from going from the audience onto a Broadway stage! I mean it's exciting (to me it is atleast)

OK. I can see how that would be exciting...
I don't find it thrilling myself, but it is pretty cool to see the costumes and everything up close, and to see all the actors and crew when they're not onstage. Yeah, I see what you mean.

bwayguy 2...aside from being an ass and having no life..you are rediculous! If you don't want to hear about people who are excited by behind the scenes info, why come into this thread? If you don't want to read..don't! By you coming in here and posting, it shows you too have a fasincation with all of the wicked stuff re: Backstage at the Gershwin

You need to know someone to go backstage. You can speak to either the house managers or the stage door guard about tours by donation. I have been and I took my sister. It is really amazing to stand on the Gershwin stage and fascinating for any theater fan to see and understand how everything works. Set pieces and costumes being stored; learning about the complex backstage choreography involved in a broadway show. It is an experience that you are unlikely to forget.

Broadwayguy2...you know your an ass who takes all the fun and magic out of theater? congratulations on that. Updated On: 12/31/04 at 01:16 PM

OK, chill. We get the message that you guys don't like what broadwayguy says. We get the point that you think he's being a stupid ass and that he shouldn't be on this thread at all.
Broadwayguy- we get the point that you don't think highly of these people who are fascinated by going backstage.
WE GET IT. Please don't fight, because e-fighting is stupider than fighting in real life. It'stotally pointless and clutters the thread.
There, now.
Now that I've said my piece... I do think it would be cool to be on the Gershwin stage, even with no one there. *dreams about singing "The wizard and I" or "popular" or "defying gravity"*

I refrain from being rude, but I do feel like I should ask you, broadwayguy2... and keep in mind that I am not trying to be humorous in any way; I genuinely want to know:

Why are you rude and disrespectful?

It's a legitimate question, and I would just care to know why you have a lack of basic respect for others. Does it have anything to do with your infatuation with Adam Fleming?? You seem to love the fact that he talked about you and took a photo with you. It's puzzling to me that he called you "sweet and nice" when your lack of basic respect doesn't seem sweet OR nice.
