Have another pot of tea.
Mr. Goldstone, I love you!
If anyone's going the 26th, I'd be glad to have dinner before the show or something. I'm already meeting up with some people but the more the merrier!
Man, I wish I could see this more than once.
And, does anyone have any *recordings* as of yet?
OH! I keep forgetting to ask this, because it's bothered me both nights.
WHAT is the deal with the man and the lamb puppet? CREEPY.
The lamb puppet is one of the only issues that I have with the show. I hate it.
I don't mind when Laura is holding it and singing to it, that looks fine, but when it comes on - couldn't they just carry it on and HAND it to her? Since it looks great when she holds it?
Yeah, that was my issue also. What is that guy DOING?
4 hours and 30 minutes.
"What I got inside of me, what I keep hoooooooooooooooooolding down inside of me, why, if I ever let it out, there wouldn't be signs BIG enough, there wouldn't be lights BRIGHT enough... Here he is, boys! Here he is, world! Here's PALJOEY!"
*walks around my office again, passing time* :)
the lamb puppet was none other than Arther Laurent's idea. Apparently everyone tried to talk him out of it and he wouldnt' budge. And i'm sorry, but those costumes are not period. Patti looks like she bought that blue-grey overcoat at Ann Taylor right before the show; and I hate her hair. Other than that - amazingness.
I'm REALLY excited for this.. but I'm a little confused with some of Laurent's choices..
- Stuffed Chowsey
- Stuffed lamb
- Cutting the faux rape scene
- Cutting the Small World Reprise
- Cutting parts of Rose's turn
I mean he has EVERY right to make these cuts/choices. The man wrote the thing. But I still don't know how I am going to feel seeing the show with those cuts.
ljay, by the end of Rose's Turn, when the decible level in City Center rivals Wicked's first year on Broadway, you'll probably be okay.
What cuts in PalJoey's Turn--I mean, Rose's Turn?
I LOVE the hair she has in this. I hated the Ravinia wig.
"Mr. Goldstone" just came up on my shuffle as I was reading your posts.
Pal. This is from page 2 of this thread.
""I understand the "Hold your hats and hallelujah/Mama's gonna show it to ya" was cut.""
YES YES YES THAT'S IT!
And then like the music that comes right after.
Not sure where "bad gigolos" comes from.
Gigolo is the monkey who eats a piece out of Louise's birthday cake.
Totally geeky observation: I think what makes Patti's "Rose's Turn" so successful is the words and phrases she chooses to emphasize... in particular, "One quick look as each of 'em LEAVES you" and "GET OFF OF MY RUNWAY".
I'm a nerd.
Though I wanted to be surprised. I want to ask anyway.
Does Patti still sing the last note of ROSE'S TURN like she did at Ravinia? At Ravinia she sang the last ME with no vibrato at all, and the way she sang the note gave Rose a "f*ck it. I'm done" kind of feel.
Is it still the same?
I'll let you know if they really cut the "Hold your hats and hallelujah" section. Seems odd that they would.
I'm not sure I'll be in any condition to remember what she does with the last note.
3 hours and 30 minutes.
The "hold your hats" was definitely gone Mon and Tuesday.
And ditto on what PalJoey just said. I have no idea how the hell she sang the last note.
Yes, she does the... last note without vibrato thing.
And the "hold your hats" bit really is gone. I didn't believe it till the second time I saw it though I thought I might have just been too hopped up by how great the song was.
all I remember about the last note was that is was higher than any other Rose i can remember...and it was hot.
