I'd go to Paper Mill. The commute is easy and what's the worst that can happen? You see a great show that ends up transferring? Or you see a show that lives and dies at Paper Mill.

I wouldn't count on it transferring. If you're interested, definitely make the trip.

I've been to Paper Mill a couple of times when there's been something that I knew I'd be mad at myself if I missed (Hunchback). It's just much more of a hassle (I'm coming from Long Island, so I either drive, which takes a good 2-2 1/2 hours, or I take the train to Penn and then transfer to NJ Transit, which is a bit more annoying). I do like this cast and am a fan of the upbeat swing music that supposedly makes up the score.

This is always my question as well lol. If it goes well, I could totally see this transferring. Not this season though. Same thing with shows like up here and dear even hansen

plus the tickets at Papermill are 2/3 the price than a Broadway ticket.

Sad that Spector isn't going with it? Maybe he's renewing on Broadway - better pay, stability, etc.

Also, curious to see what Andy does with it. This doesn't strike me as his cup of tea. When he's good he's good - see In The Heights - but when he's bad or out of place it's terrible - see Annie, 9 to 5.

It seems like Spector has a good thing going at Beautiful. Stability, solid paycheck, and from what I have read his contract includes off dates so he can perform concerts. Good deal.

it is a good deal, and wasn't he in jersey boys for like 3 years or something? But idk wouldnt an actor want to create another role too? Thats the reason Osnes turned down Dames at Sea

Well he has done well with the 50s and 60s era characters but maybe he's hoping the next role he plays to be from a more modern era. Who knows. He's great in Beautiful though.

She must have something else in the line to turn down Dames. That's stupid. A Broadway paycheck, Tony eligibility, etc. Over a regional premiere of a new musical that could go down in flames? Even if Bandstand is amazing, I don't see it rushing to Broadway. All the last new musicals at Papermill have been busts, and the one that was actually pretty good - Honeymoon - flopped hard on Broadway. But maybe she's assuming Dames will flop too. I can't imagine it will be a huge, huge hit, but you never know.

Laura has been saying for some time that she would love for her next role to be one in which she gets to create a character in a new musical. Bandstand gives her that opportunity.

Right now this casting news isn't enough to convince me to make the trip. I wonder when they'll start making more of a press push and releasing more information. I can't imagine that there are major spoilers they need to keep under wraps.

I definitely want to check this out. Saw Osnes in Carousel at the Lyric this spring and was really impressed by her performance. Of course I am also still hoping that show will somehow end up on Bway, too!
I like the PMP as a regional theater; it's a pretty town/area to visit for a show.

she was. She has said many times (probably not in public) that she doesnt want to be seen as a girl who only does revivals. She was offered a lot of other things to do the 2 out of town tryouts and broadway production for Bonnie and Clyde. Even though it bombed, she can always say she originated that role on Broadway. Plus, maybe there is still talk about bringing Carousel to Broadway this season (even though its a revival, its a great part in a great show), and if it does come to Broadway, I would imagine it would get more attention and last longer than Dames at Sea.
