99.9% of the US population will be asking: "... who the hell is Barbara Cook?"

"99.9% of the US population will be asking: "... who the hell is Barbara Cook?""
99.9% of the population doesn't know what a Kennedy Center Honor is.. so it kinda works out.
Congratulation Ms. Cook. Long overdue.

They, unfortunately, waited too long to honor Ethel Merman and Mary Martin.
Congrats to Ms. Cook and Ms. Streep.

I have no problem with Cook being honored before Channing. As for Stritch, she may have no bigger fan than me on BWW, but I'd be shocked if she were ever honored by the Kennedy Center.
I guess we'll see Rebecca Luker among those singing songs from Cook's body of work.

they seem to do one 'Broadway person' each year (or maybe it just seems that way)...would be great to honor Stritch and Channing, but they had better act quickly!!

"The Kennedy Center Honors medallions will be presented Dec. 3, the night before the gala, at a State Department dinner hosted by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton."
That sounds like a party.

Absolutely thrilled about Barbara Cook finally being recognized!
Meryl Streep's career certainly warrants recognition, but she seems young for the award. (Please don't tell me she's really 90 and just looks young for her age.) Who's the youngest person to ever receive a Kennedy Center Honor?

I actually just read this somewhere, Amalia: Stevie Wonder was the youngest Kennedy Center honoree at 49. Streep is the same age that Leonard Bernstein and Ella Fitzgerald were when they were honored.

Posted: 9/15/11 at 10:50amI'm guessing unless she is unavailable, Kristin Chenoweth will sing "Glitter and be Gay" for her idol Barbara Cook. I can also see Audra McDonald, Rebecca Luker, Kelli O'hara, Laura Benanti, Patrick Wilson and/or Matthew Morrison performing to honor Ms. Cook. Any thoughts on what Sondheim tunes we may hear? "In Buddy's Eyes" has become one of her signature songs, no? Any chance we might hear Bernadette sing it at the ceremony?
