First, I want to say how much I've enjoyed reading this thread. It's not very often you find a civilized, respectful back-and-forth of viewpoints on message boards like these.
Also, one of the things to consider is that, at least in one respect, Bare has accomplished something positive - to spark discussions like these, whether they be on message boards or in person. Whether you enjoyed the show or not, it is definitely a show that has the potential to get people talking - and sometimes that is a victory in itself.
On a personal note, while I do consider myself an ardent new fan of this show, I can see where Scott has been coming from throughout this thread. And I definitely recognize the inherent flaws in this show. The lyrics sometimes land with a thud when they should elevate, for example. I did get the impression that it could use a rewrite or two, but I think the material definitely has potential in the right hands.
I also agree with sentiment that has been expressed by others that a fully-funded Broadway production isn't going to do this show any favors. The show seems to naturally fit into a small, intimate setting. Perhaps the future of this show lies in regional and community productions. It has quite a dedicated fan base, but I think your average New York tourist is going to find it hard to justify forking over the cost of a Broadway ticket to see Bare considering the other shows that would be competing for ticket sales on the Great White Way. But, as has been said before, just my opinion.
