First, I want to say how much I've enjoyed reading this thread. It's not very often you find a civilized, respectful back-and-forth of viewpoints on message boards like these.
Also, one of the things to consider is that, at least in one respect, Bare has accomplished something positive - to spark discussions like these, whether they be on message boards or in person. Whether you enjoyed the show or not, it is definitely a show that has the potential to get people talking - and sometimes that is a victory in itself.
On a personal note, while I do consider myself an ardent new fan of this show, I can see where Scott has been coming from throughout this thread. And I definitely recognize the inherent flaws in this show. The lyrics sometimes land with a thud when they should elevate, for example. I did get the impression that it could use a rewrite or two, but I think the material definitely has potential in the right hands.
I also agree with sentiment that has been expressed by others that a fully-funded Broadway production isn't going to do this show any favors. The show seems to naturally fit into a small, intimate setting. Perhaps the future of this show lies in regional and community productions. It has quite a dedicated fan base, but I think your average New York tourist is going to find it hard to justify forking over the cost of a Broadway ticket to see Bare considering the other shows that would be competing for ticket sales on the Great White Way. But, as has been said before, just my opinion.

Is there any recent information on whether this is being produced in NY?
I don't know if it's quite the right time yet for Bare to come to NY, with the recent string of teen suicides in regards to homosexuality. Actually, reading through this thread and some of the opinions stated, I wonder what some of those posters would think in regards to the 5+ suicides in the past month.
I doubt it will make it to Broadway and if it does, I doubt Damon will be involved. I have met him and chatted with him off and on for the past 6 years and I get the feeling that he is ready to move on from "BARE". I do know that he stepped in and worked on a production in Arizona about a years or so ago but he seems to be ready to move on. We had a pretty detailed conversation about it but I don't feel it proper to share it all here.

I, too, had some lengthy chats with Damon a while ago. I don't think he wants to let it go completely, it's his "baby," as he put it. But he also made no secret at that time that he didn't see the point in revisiting NY with it, so I'd concur that if it happened on Broadway he'd have little (if anything) to do with it.
I happen to share his opinion, though, that the show doesn't belong in a big Broadway house, but rather in a small off Broadway sized theatre (and the size of the cast makes it cost prohibitive off Broadway in NYC... so keep it where it belongs: small venues across the country/world).
The issue of religion and homosexuality has always been a tough one. Enemies of one side or the other will always close their minds, refusing to acknowledge coexistence.
I happen to know a few deeply religious, very spiritual gay men. "The church NEEDS its renegades," one of them said. Rather than leaving religion when groups of haters tell them to, they push on for acceptance and respect. Prejudices have been overcome before, and this too may (hopefully) pass. All the same, I know gays who decided that with their sexuality they had no use for religion. Direct quote: "I had to choose between God and penises, and, well, we know how that turned out."
It's a tough issue- anything dealing with religion OR sexuality usually is, and combining them just makes them more complex. You know something is a hot topic when even GLEE of all things feels obliged to make an episode chiming in on it.
I saw a college production of Bare at Ithaca and loved it! I would be thrilled if it came to Broadway.

I would love the see the show come to Broadway. I think in this day and ages the shows message rings loud and clear. I hope that Michael Arden and Romelda Benjamin reprise their roles. They were both great in the Off-Broadway Productions.

You realize that Michael's now too old, right?
To me Michael was wrong for the part. Oh, he sang and acted it well, but he sounded too "pure," too trained. Not nearly enough of the "rock" rawness that the score is intended for.

So..
There must be another reading of Bare coming up, because Andy Mientus updated his fan Facebook today to say he was doing "a reading of a VERY exciting new project (a hint: it's another boarding school musical)". Aaron Riesebeck, who was also in Academy, commented and confirmed that Andy will be playing Peter, and Corey Boardman will be Matt. No word on who might be playing Jason or any other casting.
He deleted the facebook status earlier today.

According to B'way Spotted on Twitter:
Casting news for the upcoming reading of "Bare: A Pop Opera." Andy Mientus will be Peter and Corey Boardman will be Matt.

Hm. Wonder if this will get another life after all....I'd go see it.
Heard through a reliable source that Joey Taranto (currently starring as Drew in Rock of Ages) is attached to this project. Don't know what role, though.
I hope this show makes it to Broadway!
I think that the recent acknowledgment of gay suicides (I'm not going to pretend like this is a new epidemic. LGBT kids have been trying to kill themselves for years. The nation just now taking notice) make Bare especially relevant. It's not a perfect show, but if they trim it down a little, and fix some problems, and find the right broadway house,it could have a solid following.
According to Stafford Arima Facebook status they start rehearsals today on a newly revised script of the show.
