Be more chill transfer?

I saw the preview for it and it looks amazing! Does anyone think it may transfer to New york? Maybe New world stages. It seems like it could be the next heathers.

So an off-Broadway flop?

The New York Times hated it, and the book on which the show is based on is pretty awful (and really sexist too). I doubt it.

I guess i set myself up for that one

I live near Red Bank and I thought the show was wonderful. Even though they got a bad review from the NY Times, they just extended the run. Anyone near Red Bank or by the Jersey Shore should see it before it closes. Its funny and a real eye opener.

Honestly, this show will forever be destined for Off-Broadway. I think it could very well have an NY transfer, but it will never come to Broadway. It has such a wide crazy plot that it would flop on Broadway in a matter of seconds. Off-Broadway, now thats a different story.

Made this thread years ago but decided to bring it back instead of making a new one. I saw the show off broadway and while I can't say Im in love with it I did like it quite a bit. Their whole off broadway run is completely sold out....does anyone think this could transfer to broadway?I personally can't see it there but who knows!?! Maybe The Walter Kerr after Springsteen wraps up?

Doubtful. I could see it extending or transferring to another off bway theater to see just what kind a success it could be.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I'm almost positive that its closing in September won't be the end of it. I would be astounded if it actually transferred to Broadway, but I'm pretty sure it's either going to extend, or move somewhere that could house it for a year or two. Once the fan hype fizzles out, which it seems to have done a little bit already, it's not going to last. This isn't drawing in many adults

“Michael in the Bathroom” has millions of hits on YouTube. Surely this is more hype than any other off-Broadway show in recent memory? It’s hard to imagine this material on Broadway but I can imagine a good sales person convincing investors they might be part of the next Dear Evan Hansen. I wouldn’t say a Broadway transfer is a categorical no at this stage.
Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

I don't think Broadway is the answer, but they'd be stupid not to transfer it somewhere. I think Minetta Lane would be a good fit - but could people find it? Or maybe New World if there is an available space.

They have to extend or move to another theater. There's simply too much money to be made.

There will be more performances. The only question is where.

Personally, I'd like to see a move to Broadway. It can't possibly do worse numbers than some current tenants like Gettin' the Band Back Together or Head Over Heels.

Signature has a show coming in a few weeks later, so moving is the only option.

That said, I'm not sure the way to win over investors is say you can lose less money than other struggling shows who aren't even able to meet their weekly nut.

Mmmm, rabid stans. Just what Broadway needs.

It's not moving to Broadway...Desperate Measures is closing at New World Stages 10/28 could it be possibly moving there?

Desperate Measure hopes to extend... if people keep buying tickets... but New World makes sense for BMC

If it transfers to Broadway, it should just be for a limited engagement (6 months).
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I can’t see the regular Broadway-going audience being keen on this one. I imagine the hype will die down in a few weeks, especially once the teenage fanbase goes back to school.

Booth will be open in the Spring and the Belsaco is bound to be open soon. Could be a good fit. I agree that an Off Broadway run would be the best way to go, but heck not many new musicals announced for this Broadway season, it could come in and do well.

I think one of the crucial elements to a Broadway transfer would be a rave from Brantley or Green. Even if one of the second-string critics gives it a good review (LCH, Vincentelli), I don't think that's going to be enough momentum to (a) serve as a safety net for big Broadway money, and (b) convince the "traditional" Broadway audience to see the show.

Plenty of shows have done well playing a 290-seat house for 9 weeks at Off-Broadway prices, and then struggle when they have to fill 1,000 seats 8 times a week for a year+ at an average ticket price of more than $100.

But really...who knows?

The Broadway musical market is really undersaturated this season. We've only got four new non-jukebox musicals confirmed to open this season, and one of them is based on King Kong. The producers might do a Broadway transfer if they think it will pick up a few Tonys.

The New World Stages mainstage is perfect for this. It will run for years and be super popular.

#22

Be more chill transfer?

Yeah this seems perfect for New World.

#23

Ideally, to maximize profits, they could run a limited 3 month run on Broadway from November to January, extend it to April/May when they sell out so they could invite Tony voters, get tonies, and move to New World. I don't really see a place for this on Broadway or a reason, but the cast would definitely want something like this (they could take the booth before their move.

Be more chill transfer?

I have no idea about the legalities or logistics of this, but if it moved to a more permanent home (New World or wherever), I wonder if the whole Kickstarter to get it movie screens would happen like it did with Puffs. The creatives on this seem like such a fan-friendly group that I wouldn't be shocked if they try to make it more accessible.
