From the NYP:
"A source tells me that director Alex Timbers sat down with the creative team and went through the show “beat by beat,” expunging all that was tasteless, lewd and inappropriate in the post-#MeToo era. He also demanded better jokes and songs."
Okay Werk.
I also love the shade thrown at King Kong.
"Eddie Perfect, an Australian songwriter, wrote the score. He also wrote the songs for “King Kong,” which isn’t going to win any Tony Awards."

I spit out my coffee when I read that King Kong shade lmao
Really hoping that the changes will make the show more viable. I heard terrible things about the out of town run. I love Alex Timbers, so hopefully he's righting the ship.
I wonder how well that will work, given that the film AND the musical lean hard into Beetlejuice being a boorish sexual-harassment demon. I hope they haven't lost the original eleven o'clock number mock-praising dirty old men who chase teenage girls, as it was the only time in the show that the satirical beats REALLY landed in the version I saw. Very "Book of Mormon" for that one scene only.
Creepy Old Guy? I agree, I hope they don't cut it.
There's definitely a great show in here somewhere, I laughed a ton so I hope they made it a bit more coherent. I wish they let Caruso keep her blonde hair for Broadway.
The Jason Zinoman translation is really funny:

I just noticed something, The hyperlink says "revamped-beetlejuice-still-may-not-have-the-juice-for-broadway" but the title is "Revamped ‘Beetlejuice’ may have the juice for Broadway after all".
hmmm...very sneaky sis..
It's not super uncommon in digital media for the slug to be posted reflecting the original headline or lede. It's unfortunate when something changes that drastically, though.
The sense that I got was that the material in DC was stuck between "BJ is a lovable asshole" and "it's time we realize that the lovable asshole archetype isn't actually that lovable." So there were moments like "Creepy Old Guy" that played into this and gave it a more satiric bent, and then other moments that kind of pandered to the audience digging BJ being his classic disreputable self.

So I saw this in DC and am so happy to hear of some of the changes happening!
1. The boy band was horrible, and in my opinion the show never recovered from that point in the second act, so this change is a huge win! Miss Argentina had a quick walk-across and audiences applauded at just her presence, so I believe she will be a much more welcomed introduction to the netherworld than some random boy band.
2. The tone of BJs comedy was truly all over the place, with a lot of bits and jokes for pure reaction, but not necessarily tied to the actual character or storytelling. Random F-bombs, awkward audience takes, etc.
3. The set outshines the show. As it was, this was a show I recommended to everyone to see the sets and effects alone. They were lie nothing I have ever seen, and as a Burton fan, met every expectation x10. But how long can that carry a serviceable show? Would the show work without the set...nope.
4. Not one hummable tune in the score. The music was fine, the talent wonderful, but lyrics clunky and style all over the place.
I am happy that the team was not cocky and is making changes. I hope they continue through the preview process to finess this, as it is a very fun premise and could really bring something new to the broadway.

My exact thoughts. And gee, it’s not Hamilton — I doubt there’s going to be a frenzy for a Beetlejuice weekly in-person lottery event. Hope it’s a good time for those who go, though.
Waiting patiently for a less socially mortifying rush or lottery option.
I think this is awesome!!!! It'll be a great way to meet other Beetlejuice fans!!!
I haven’t seen it mentioned here but Beetlejuice is having another ticker flash sale today: $59 tickets on Telecharge.

Any idea of the timeframe that deal is good for? Is this for just during Previews? Of course the mid-July dates are still full price.

It's only during previews - so what, 3,4,5 of these? Sounds like fun!

I have to admit that I can never remember not wanting to see a big musical as much as I don't want to see this, between the Washington reception and the fact that I HATED the movie. I hope I am wrong, as Broadway ALWAYS benefits from a new hit musical.
I fear that -- if Tootsie disappoints -- this will be an abysmal season for big musicals and maybe musicals period. I at least admit that my disinterest in seeing Hadestown could be very wrong.
