From what I do know about the film, it's not that explicit or too much adult content. With the warnings they've put on the website and all the marketing I'm wondering if we can expect something Book of Mormon-ish?

I hope they do some real old-school special effects. That's one reason I love the film. Also, please keep this scene somehow:

I'm a "millennial" and I can't say I totally know the source material, but that said, I think it's a bonkers idea for a big budget Broadway musical and I love it. I'm excited to see it.

I can see this working as finale and curtain call similar to Billy Elliot. I guess I’ll find out when I see the show in DC in less than two months.

'Are younger generations even familiar with the movie? I remember watching it in the 80's and being thoroughly entertained, but how familiar is it to people born after 1990?"
Alas no one born after 1990 has a television.

I totally agree-I really thought MR! would take the Winter Garden. Any thoughts of where it might go since this is no longer an option?

Since the Imperial and the Winter Garden are out of the cards now for Moulin Rouge, the Hirschfeld is probably the best bet at this point (this would make sense, considering the rumors that have been going around for a while!)

Ugh. The Hirschfeld feels so out-of-the-way compared to the rest of broadway / Times Square. For my own selfish reasons I wish it was going into a theater more central Just because of aesthetics.
Anyway, My only issue that I have now is I feel like the logo is too cartoony. It kind of looks like clip art

Regarding younger generations and their knowledge of Beetlejuice, I don't know the answer to that at all, but more people than I realized remembered it when Robin Thicke did that VMA performance with Miley Cyrus and so many memes resulted..like this one:

As a rule, millennials and the generation beneath them don't care much about TV unless it's prestige TV (Netflix/HBO) or event TV. The FreeForm channel (which used to be ABC Family or Fox Family) has capitalized on that event TV thing for over a decade with its beloved Harry Potter marathons or "13 Nights of Halloween" programming blocks. Anyone under 30 likely grew up watching 13 Nights of Halloween and seeing Beetlejuice repeatedly, as it's a staple of that programming block. When I was a kid, they even played the movie on Disney Channel regularly, with the one f-bomb and masturbatory gesture censored.

There was also that Nickelodeon cartoon that ran in the 90s.

I'm probably not your most typical example, but was born in 1990, grew up in India - and saw Beetlejuice for the first time last year because a work friend threw a giant viewing party. There were probably 40 people invited (my age group) and most of them knew them knew the movie growing up and liked it. I think it definitely has a pretty good name recognition. Enough to get tourists to flock.

Would you all recommend watching the movie before seeing the show? I don't really have plans to see it yet, but just curious.

I'd recommend seeing the movie even if you don't plan on seeing the show. The movie isn't the best thing in the world, but it's highly enjoyable.

Absolutely. The film is a Tim Burton masterpiece and the stellar film cast elevates it to another level: Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara and most notably, Michael Keaton.

I'm definitely among the youngest crowds on here, and I'm also pretty active on Twitter (gross, I know). From what I'm seeing on there, people my age have either seen the movie and liked it, or are excited enough about the cast/director/general aesthetic to go see it anyway. I personally have never seen the movie but have heard a lot about it, so I'm hoping to check this one out!

As a late millennial/very early gen Z, I have seen Beetlejuice, and it's an amazing movie. What's with the stereotype that all people under age 20 haven't watched the classics and are addicted to on demand? Heck, I don't even have Netflix or Hulu!

Thank-you everyone for the responses re the younger generation knowing this show. This sounds to me like the show could have a very strong commercial run as the audience could come from a pretty broad demographic and age group.

The Palace Theatre renovation won't be completed until 2021, at the earliest.

From the NYP:
"A source tells me that director Alex Timbers sat down with the creative team and went through the show “beat by beat,” expunging all that was tasteless, lewd and inappropriate in the post-#MeToo era. He also demanded better jokes and songs."
Okay Werk.
I also love the shade thrown at King Kong.
"Eddie Perfect, an Australian songwriter, wrote the score. He also wrote the songs for “King Kong,” which isn’t going to win any Tony Awards."
